Top QB Performances in the Shore Conference: Week 1

Prep Redzone New Jersey looks at some of the top Week 1 performances by QB’s in the Shore Conference. The majority of these quarterbacks helped lead their teams to victory in Week 1. Several of these players have been added to the Prep Redzone New Jersey database and are now on the "Watch List". [player_tooltip player_id="174107" first="Connor" last="Dietz"] | 6-1 | 165 | Brick Memorial Dietz did a lot of damage during Brick Township’s 32-27 win over Howell. Connor completed 4-of-7 passes for 57 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also ran 22 times for 137 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Dietz scored on runs of 3, 4, and 24 yards. [player_tooltip player_id="198098" first="Dennis" last="Buonagura"] | 6-0 | 185 | Matawan Regional Buonagura completed 19-of-34 passes for 320 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions in a 28-27 win over Ocean Township. [player_tooltip player_id="198097" first="George" last="Mitchell"] | 6-5 | Keyport | 2022 Mitchell completed 5-of-10 passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns in a 37-20 win over Metuchen. [player_tooltip player_id="198099" first="Jalin" last="Butler"] | 6-2 | 205 | Donovan Catholic Butler completed 6-of-8 passes for 122 yards and three touchdowns in a 54-14 win over Archbishop Stepinac. Butler also carried the football five times for 40 yards. One of Butler’s touchdown passes was a nice fade ball to the receiver down the right sideline for 29 yards. He threw a 19-yard touchdown pass after executing a play-action fake to the running back and waiting for his receiver to get open on the post-route for the score. His last touchdown throw involved Butler showing a soft touch as he tight end end over the top of the defender for 20-plus yards. It’s worth noting that Butler also plays the safety position for Donovan Catholic. He’s a true dual-threat quarterback as Butler made a few plays with his legs. [player_tooltip player_id="198101" first="Jaisun" last="Brown"] | 6-5 | 190 |Asbury Park | 2023 Brown completed 14-of-16 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-19 win over Red Bank Regional. He threw  26-yard touchdown pass to Lydel Brown and a 28-yard touchdown pass to RahLee Stephens. Brown did a great job of avoiding the pass rush and keeping the play alive long enough for the receiver to break open on the 28-yard touchdown pass. [player_tooltip player_id="198111" first="Stephen" last="Jardim"] | 5-10 | 175 | Howell | 2022 Jardim completed 10-of-15 passes for 211 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception and carried the football five times for 36 yards and a touchdown in a 32-27 loss to Brick Memorial. Both of his touchdown passes, 78 and 10 yards, went to Jack Gartenstein. On the 78-yard touchdown play, Jardim did a great job of throwing a pass that Gartenstein could catch in stride. The ball traveled about thirty yards in the air and Gartenstein was able to get past his man down the left sideline. [player_tooltip player_id="198110" first="Tyler" last="Douglas"] | 6-2 | 185 | Ocean Township | 2023 Douglas completed 8-of-12 passes for 148 yards and three touchdowns and ran the football six times for 37 yards and one touchdown in a 28-27 loss to Matawan Regional.
