Week 2 of the 2021 season was absolutely ELECTRIC! As we get this third week rolling, let’s check out some players that put up huge performances last Friday!
[player_tooltip player_id="104461" first="Raymond" last="Collins"] | Harrison Central | LB
Collins has been one of our favorite linebackers in the 2022 class, and he made sure to turn some heads this past Friday. The senior backer forced 2 turnovers in Harrison Central’s big 38-18 win over Morton. Collins looks fast and played extremely well in the pass game, baiting Morton’s quarterback into an easy INT. Look for him to keep dominating this week against Slidell.
[player_tooltip player_id="119162" first="Chancellor" last="barron"] | Mendenhall | DB
The Mendenhall defense was on fire this past week, but junior Chancellor Baron could have been the biggest impact player. With 12 tackles, 2 INTs, and 1 TD, Baron was a one man wrecking crew against Magee. Baron showed incredible growth in his range this offseason, chasing down vertical routes from the hash to the numbers for two easy INTs. This guy is fast and knows how to break on the ball.
[player_tooltip player_id="104367" first="Zach" last="Wilcke"] | Hernando | QB
[player_tooltip player_id="104367" first="Zach" last="Wilcke"] rebounded in full force this week passing for 6 touchdowns and rushing for another. The Southern Miss commit made a ton of impressive deep throws downfield, while also accurately distributing the ball to his play makers. Wilcke looked mobile in the pocket and showed that he could stay poised with pressure in his face.
[player_tooltip player_id="104438" first="DJ" last="Burgess"] | Lafayette | DL
Only playing limited time in Lafayette’s 38-7 win over Horn Lake, Burgess made the most of his minutes. The Southern Miss commit finished with 1 sack, 1 TFL, and 2 forced fumbles. Burgess is in contention to be one Mississippi’s most game changing defensive linemen. It seems like every game this guy is coming through with a turnover.
[player_tooltip player_id="104549" first="Telvin" last="Amos"] | Lake Cormorant | QB
Lake Cormorant’s senior quarterback was as dominant as ever this past week, rushing for 3 touchdowns and passing for 1. Amos was the primary ball carrier for Lake Cormorant and was scoring from all over the field. The senior flashed impressive speed in the open field and good wiggle to make defenders miss.
[player_tooltip player_id="108931" first="Kaden" last="Irving"] | Gautier | QB
This new offense for Gautier may be the perfect match for [player_tooltip player_id="108931" first="Kaden" last="Irving"]. The junior Ole Miss baseball commit threw 27/37 for 493 yards and 6 TDs, while also rushing for 14 yards and a score. These video game numbers are likely to continue repeating throughout the season because Irving looks as poised as ever. If he continues on the track that he is on, colleges will take notice soon.
Caden Stevens | Benton Academy | RB
Benton Academy running back Caden Stevens put up a Madden stat line of 340 rushing yards and 2 TDs in a big win over Lee Academy. Stevens is one of the biggest sleepers in the MAIS conference, but the secret may be out now.
[player_tooltip player_id="104548" first="Chris" last="Bell"] | Greenville Christian | WR
Playing against one of the top defensive backs in the nation, [player_tooltip player_id="104548" first="Chris" last="Bell"] scored three times in a narrow loss to Collin’s Hill (GA). Bell was the go to receiver in this one, taking screen passes all the way and outjumping folks on fade balls for touchdowns. Bell is a Southern Miss commit now, but with his performance last week, watch for more Power 5 schools to start trying to get involved with this stud senior wideout.
[player_tooltip player_id="106161" first="Mack" last="Howard"] | Heritage Academy | QB
In a 41-15 win over East Union, it was the [player_tooltip player_id="106161" first="Mack" last="Howard"] show. Howard passed 22/30 for 355 yards and 5 TDs, while also rushing for 41 yards and a score. Howard has been known as one of the best QBs in the 2023 class, but at this point it’s hard to find one better. Howard threw the ball well downfield and looked as accurate as ever.
[player_tooltip player_id="108978" first="Mike" last="Williams"] | Natchez | WR
Natchez wideout put his name on the map this past week, making 7 catches for 125 yards and 4 TDs. The junior looked incredibly fast downfield and made some really impressive grabs with defenders in his face. Looking for his recruitment to pick up soon due to the amount of talent he has shown so far.
Kaleb Raston | Moss Point | LB
Junior backer Kaleb Raston was a name that popped up on our board after his huge performance last week. Raston totaled 18 tackles and 3 forced fumbles in limited time against East Central. Raston has totaled 4 turnovers this season and has shown that he has an absolute nose for the football. Looking for this guy to keep rising up the rankings in time.
