New Jersey is known for having great talent in our public and non-public schools, but I wanted to separate things further to give those smaller non-public players the recognition they deserve. Some of these players are going both ways and making significant contributions in the kicking game. Hopefully this will be a weekly thing, so look for your name to be mentioned on twitter, antoinehicks@hicksthewriter and Prepredzone.com/NJ.

Group 3: [player_tooltip player_id="28050" first="Kyree" last="Drake"], Sr., Donovan Catholic

vs. Archbishop Stepinac: 5 rec, 94 yds, 2 TDs

Kyree is one of those shifty athletes that offensive coordinators crave. Donovan Catholic showed in the preseason film that they'll be getting him the ball on bubble screens and sweeps as well as using his speed to stretch defenses. He only needs a small crease to take one to the crib. The Stepinic film shows excellent footwork in his releases to beat the press and the speed to separate from defenders. He also plays great defense at corner and scored a 32 yard TD run off a fake punt in this game.

Group 3: Sherrod Hudson, Sr., St. Thomas Aquinas

Group 4: [player_tooltip player_id="28013" first="Myles" last="Thomason"], Sr., Seton Hall

vs. Union City: 14 car, 240 yds, 3 TDs

Myles' preseason film shows moves on top of moves on would be tacklers. Spin move, dead leg, jump cut, whatever he needs to make a defender miss. In the film vs. Union he displays great speed, accelerating through creases and into the open field. He consistently runs through arm tackles and has the leg drive finish runs and gain extra yards. Myles also has the vision to find cutback lanes when defenders over pursue. His skillset is truly remarkable

Passing
Group 2: [player_tooltip player_id="135813" first="Dean" last="DeNobile"], Sr. Morris Catholic

vs. Pequannok: 12 of 19, 226 yds, 2 TDs, 117.4 QB rating

I love Dean’s escapability. He feels the rush and scrambles around while keeping his eyes down field for big plays. Very athletic, he completes passes on designed roll outs and scramble drills with equal accuracy. His 2020 film is full of similar plays, like the naked boot he pulled off for a rushing TD in this game. Dean is the #5 QB in the state according to the ’22 PrepRedzone Player Rankings.

Group 3: [player_tooltip player_id="198099" first="Jalin" last="Butler"], Sr., Donovan Catholic

vs. Archbishop Stepinec: 6 of 8, 122 yds, 3 TDs, 156 QB rating

Jalin throws a good deep ball, getting enough air under long passes to give his receivers a chance to make big plays . He also plays safety and shows that speed to be a weapon in the run game. For someone who can take off and run, I was really impressed with his willingness to stand in the pocket and deliver. He stood tall and delivered a great ball downfield for a touchdown, knowing he was going to take a big hit.

Group 4: Steve Angeli: Sr., Bergen Catholic

vs. Smyrna: 14 of 15, 360 yds, 5 TDs , 171.5 QB Rating

Steve put up video game like numbers in all facets of the game vs. Delaware power, Smyrna High School. 10 different Bergen Catholic receivers caught passes including RB [player_tooltip player_id="27989" first="Ryan" last="Butler"], who had 3 catches for 125 yds and a TD. When your running back catches for over 100 yds, that’s getting it done. These were not dink and duck, run after the catch plays either. Angeli pushed the ball down the field and was exceptionally accurate on the run. Steve is the #1 QB in the 22’ PrepRedzone Player Rankings and is committed to play for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in 2022.
