Dominic Castagnetto (2024 DE Chanhassen)- Dominic was a force on the D-line for the storm. The sophomore recorded 8 tackles, 2 of them for loss. He helped slow down Orono’s RB Mueller and has improved over the season. Head Coach Nelson has done a good job pairing him up with senior Gabe Lindsay-Wartnick for some veteran leadership. This young beast has great potential.
Gabe Porthan (2022 LB Chanhassen)- Porthan has been a menace for the Storm D for quite some time. This year, paired with fellow senior John Dahl, they have been fun to watch. Gabe picked up his 2nd INT of the season Friday and tacked on 5 tackles . Gabe has great field vision and is aware of his surroundings at all times. He also loves getting big hits too. Be on the lookout for these 2 for the rest of the season.
Nash Tichy (2023 LB Orono)- Nash was all over the field. He covered gaps in the D on runs while also helping guard the middle on WR routes. He notched 7 tackles, 2 for loss getting to the backfield. Despite the O-line for Chanhassen looking better, he still got through them and made some big plays. He will be a big help to this Orono D the rest of the year.
Alex Carstens (2022 OLB Chanhassen)- Carstens has some great energy on the field. He is a very skilled OLB and works well with the defense. He’s great coming off the edge and reading the play quickly. Friday, he recorded 6 tackles, 4 assisted, 1 for loss. That one was the turning point as it was a sack on 4th and short, and it wasn’t a short sack. He ran down the QB and sacked him for a big loss. He will end his senior year strong, no question.
Honorable mention: Kurt Schaefer (2022 CB Chanhassen)-Kurt was all over the field. Whether it was deflecting passes on deep routes, almost recording an INT, or hustling on special teams being the first one down there, he is a leader on the defensive end and a player young kids look up to.
