Week 4 of the high school season looks to be one of the best this fall, with some top programs in North Georgia going at it once again. There are some great out-of-conference games this weekend, giving us a sneak peak at what the playoffs could look like down the road.
Here are some of the biggest North Georgia matchups this weekend along with players to know in the games…
Collins Hill at Rome
This is one of the biggest games of the season as 7A contender Collins Hill travels north to take on the 2-0 Rome Wolves, a powerhouse 6A program in Northwest Georgia. This game is loaded with D1 talent including the nation’s top overall prospect.
5-star ATH [player_tooltip player_id="33861" first="Travis" last="Hunter"] is the top prospect in the country and will line up at both WR and CB against Rome. The future Florida State Seminole has elite ball skills and acceleration. He was the state’s leading receiver from last year and off to an excellent start so far in the 2021 season. Through two games, Hunter has caught 17 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, Hunter has made 8 tackles with one INT.
Collins Hill also has an SEC-caliber QB in future Missouri Tiger, [player_tooltip player_id="33893" first="Sam" last="Horn"]. The 6-foot-4 190-pounder has a big arm and off to a great start to his senior season, throwing for 456 yards and 3 TDs. He’s also shown mobility, rushing for 66 yards and two more scores.
For Rome, QB [player_tooltip player_id="137476" first="Reece" last="Fountain"] is the name to know. One of the top 2024 QBs across the South, Fountain has a strong arm and one of the more dynamic sophomores in the state. Fountain has started strong in his second season, throwing for 340 yards and 3 touchdowns through his first two games. He already holds offers from North Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Wake Forest. If he continues his path and develops his arm over the next three years, look for more schools to jump on board with an offer. He’ll have a tough task this weekend as he’ll be going up against one of the top defenses in 7A.
Walton vs. West Forsyth
The Walton Raiders are one of the hottest teams in 7A right now and are hosting a West Forsyth team full of young talent, coming off their biggest season in school history.
The top prospect in this game is West Forsyth tight end, [player_tooltip player_id="33945" first="Oscar" last="Delp"]. The big 6-foot-4 225-pounder is one of the top pass-catching tight ends in the country due to his size and ability to run routes as a receiver. He’s a total mismatch for any defense and is off to an excellent senior season. Through two games, Delp has caught 12 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns. IF the Wolverines want to pull the upset, they’ll need to get Delp involved early and often.
The Wolverines also have an excellent rushing attack with junior Peyton Streko and sophomore Ryder Stewart. They two have combined for 286 yards and three touchdowns so far this season.
For Walton, defensive back [player_tooltip player_id="33900" first="Marcus" last="Allen"], a North Carolina commitment, is the top prospect. The long, athletic 6-foot-2 175-pounder is great in coverage, but he’s also physical on the outside and can help in the run game. He’s one of the top overall DBs across North Georgia.
At running back, the Raiders will rely on [player_tooltip player_id="165699" first="Sutton" last="Smith"] to get some key yards against a talented West Forsyth linebacker core. The Memphis commit is a tough runner with speed at 5-foot-11 180-pounds who has played really well to start the season.
Kennesaw Mountain vs. Sprayberry
In a big Cobb County showdown, the 3-0 Mustangs host the 1-0 Yellow Jackets in Kennesaw.
For the Mustangs, their top prospect is offensive tackle, [player_tooltip player_id="34060" first="Connor" last="Lew"]. The big 2023 lineman at 6-foot-3 280-pounds has seen his stock take off in the offseason and he’s a big reason why they’ve rushed for 430 yards and 7 touchdowns so far this season. He’s lean, athletic, but can overpower smaller defensive linemen. Lew currently holds offers from Miami, Duke, among others. Look for him to continue having a big junior season.
At Sprayberry, the player to know is running back, Isaiah Abbey. The Yellow Jacket senior ran wild in their only game of the season in a big 33-0 win over Wheeler. The big 6-foot-0 220-pounder did almost all the damage for Sprayberry as he rushed for 264 yards on 19 carries and scored four touchdowns. He’s a powerful runner who breaks tackles with ease. He’s tough to tackle for any defender and constantly falls forward when being brought down. He’s a physical runner who can wear down defenses, and that’s exactly what he did last weekend. Look for him to carry the load throughout the night against Kennesaw Mountain.
