I was on the sidelines for the highly-anticipated game on Friday night. New Bern’s high-powered offensive unit performed up to their expectations and the fans in attendance were pleased. The players listed performances caught my attention throughout the game:
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="44971" first="KJ" last="Sampson"], DT, 6’4" 285, New Bern HS</strong>. KJ was very quick out of his stance and displayed strong use of his hands to control blockers to stop the play. He was double-teamed throughout the game in attempt to contain him. [player_tooltip player_id="44971" first="KJ" last="Sampson"] is difficult to block as he applied constant pressure on the quarterback, disrupting the offensive plays. KJ’s performance was clearly the most dominant defensive player on the field.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="143171" first="No’Tavien" last="Green"], DE, 6’1" 210, New Bern HS</strong>. No’tavien displayed good lateral movement and footwork while controlling blockers to stop the play. He made several solo tackles and assisted on others. [player_tooltip player_id="143171" first="No’Tavien" last="Green"] plays with high-energy and give maximum effort on every play.
<strong>William Brimmer, DE, 6’3" 200, New Bern HS</strong>. William displayed good footwork and was quick out of his stance to control blockers. He displays good use of hands while going around blockers, resulting in a QB sack. William Brimmer is a technique-sound defensive player with good speed.
The defensive line controlled the line of scrimmage throughout the game.
<strong>Jaiden Nesbit, MLB, 6’0" 180, Havelock HS</strong>. Jaiden reads the play and closing in quickly to stop the play. He displays good lateral movement and technique. Jaiden Nesbit makes a lot of solo tackles and assists on others. He is one of the standout players on the defensive unit.
<strong>Braylon Cushinberry, FS, 5’7" 155, Havelock HS</strong>. Braylon is a very player in the secondary who is technique-sound. He makes solo tackles in the open field and assist on others. Braylon Cushinberry is a standout player in the defensive secondary.
<strong>Edward Steward, DE, 6’2" 200, Havelock HS</strong>. Edward displayed good technique and footwork while controlling blockers. He comes out of his stance quickly and is tough to block, resulting in a QB sack. Edward Steward plays with an edge and tries to disrupt every play.
