Continue ReadingELK RIVER– We dive into the offensive side of the ball from Thursday night’s battle between Providence Academy and Spectrum to give the subscribers of Prep Redzone Minnesota our Big Dogs of the Game on the offensive side of the ball. These 10 young men played at a high level on Thursday night. Whether they just had a couple of key plays to make their team better or were electric for the duration of the game, these 10 prospects showed what it takes to be a “dog” on the football field offensively.
Brandon Riddle Brandon Riddle 6'3" | 225 lbs | TE MN | Tight End | Spectrum | 2023
Riddle didn’t get all that many targets on Thursday night, but when the ball was in his hands he made the most of it. He showed on one particular play the strength of this 235-pound tight end as he dragged a few Lions tacklers for a much-needed first down for the Sting offense. Riddle also made a key fumble recovery for a touchdown early in this game. I have said before, but I will say it again, Riddle is one of the best true tight-end prospects Minnesota has to offer and won’t be a kid you will have to worry about putting his frame together when he steps on campus. With the gates open for the Class of 2023, Riddle has seen significant interest rise from the FBS level and maybe the first-ever Spectrum Sting prospect we know to play at that level.
Stormy Knight | Running Back | Providence Academy | 2023
Knight showed off some solid speed out the gates in Thursday’s game against Spectrum. He showed a great shift in his footwork running between the tackles inside and then rallying to the sidelines after getting thru his progressions. Knight runs downhill at a high level showing this numerous times on his rushing attack on Thursday night. The Lions used his workload a ton in red-zone situations, in which he cashed in three touchdowns on the night. In my eyes, Knight certainly has the tools to play football at the next level based on what I saw on Thursday.

Jon Greig | Running Back | Spectrum | 2023
Greig put together a solid outing against Providence Academy getting loose for a 75-yard sprint for a touchdown. What stood out to me about Greig was not only his play on the field but as a leader off the field, as he consistently was coaching on the sidelines directing his teammates where they should be be playing the ball. Greig also made solid contact on his tackles on the defensive side of the ball and attacked the ball at a high level.
Jack Reller | Quarterback | Providence Academy | 2022
Reller showed solid mobility when he left the pocket on running plays. He did a solid job with his quick release on a handful of throws but was most dominant with his legs. He made solid reads while inside the pocket as well. His ability to take what his offensive line gave him on the inside lanes and run thru those lanes with ease is what made him one of our Big Dogs of the Game, logging two total touchdowns.
Kaden LaComb | Running Back | Providence Academy | 2022
LaComb was the third running back to get the ball for the Lions, but this kid was a workhorse inside in the Spectrum 10-yard line. He showed off some power inside by showing how well he can run thru contact and showed that consistently throughout the game on Thursday on short-yardage situations. On tape, I came away impressed with Kaden’s linebacker film as he shows a solid pad level and does well attacking the ankles of the ball carrier.
Tanner Gangl Tanner Gangl 5'11" | 190 lbs | QB Spectrum | 2023 State MN | Quarterback | Spectrum | 2023
Gangl is a straight-up grinder all over the football field. At quarterback, he showed a solid touch on the ball and solid arm strength. Gangl can make plays with his legs and throws a solid ball while on the run. He also shows a quick release of pitch and catch. You won’t see too many quarterbacks that will surrender their bodies and get out in front and block for their tailbacks. This young man plays with high energy and as a team leader, expects the same out of his teammates. He also showed some solid hang time on his punts from Thursday night which is just another asset to this young man’s game as the Sting’s quarterback, defensive back, kicker, punter, and return man.
Biggest Dog of the Game:
Jacob Meissner Jacob Meissner 5'10" | 200 lbs | RB Providence Academy | 2022 State MN | Running Back | Providence Academy | 2022
Meissner showed off a ton of power in every carry he made from scrimmage on Thursday night. He used that power on the inside runs to get to the outside where you really saw his speed break out at a high level. I didn’t have a counter on how many yards after contact Meissner had but man, he was carrying some weght with him especially in his carries in the first half.
Meissner won our game award for Big Dog of the Game in Thursday night’s battle with Spectrum as this young man played exceptional on both sides of the football and was well-deserving of the award.
More Big Dogs of Note
Titus Sklstad | Wide Receiver | Spectrum | 2022
Sklstad had a 46-yard receiving touchdown from Tanner Gangl Tanner Gangl 5'11" | 190 lbs | QB Spectrum | 2023 State MN in the second quarter.
Jairus Sorensen | Running Back | Spectrum | 2023
Sorensen provided a late-game spark despite the Lions already in command, fought hard for a 36-yard rushing touchdown. Regardless of the score, I love when kids continue to battle until the clock strikes zero which is exactly what Sorensen did very late in the 4th quarter.
Josh Mogeni | Wide Receiver | Providence Academy | 2022
Mogeni brought in an 18-yard touchdown to really change the momentum of the game to lean towards the Lions in the middle of the second quarter.
