The second Saturday of Missouri high school football produced more memorable performances and featured one of the top matchups of the season as De Smet traveled to East St. Louis for a showdown of arguably the top teams on each side of the river. For a more in-depth look at Soldan’s win over McCluer and Vashon’s victory over Vianney, check out the game recaps below from Josh Robinson. Soldan-McCluer: Game Recap & Players of the Game Vashon-Vianney: Game Recap & Players of the Game Here are some of the players who stood out in St. Louis areas games on Saturday... [player_tooltip player_id="37602" first="Duncan" last="Cloniger"], 6-2, 190, QB, John Burroughs, Class of 2022 Cloniger had a career game with seven touchdowns in the Bombers’ big 61-20 win over Brentwood on Saturday afternoon. He completed 24 of 28 passes for 412 yards and six touchdowns — to four different receivers — and also added a third-quarter rushing touchdown. Teammates [player_tooltip player_id="37530" first="Caleb" last="Merritt"] and [player_tooltip player_id="172300" first="Adisa" last="Roberts"] each snagged two touchdown receptions. Merritt, a Wyoming commitment, added an interception. Roberts finished with four catches for a team-high 97 yards. [player_tooltip player_id="37662" first="Christian" last="Gray"], 6-1, 175, CB, De Smet, Class of 2023 De Smet came up short in the much-anticipated matchup at East St. Louis on Saturday night, 32-17, but the Spartans still had some of their top-tier talent flash the potential that has made them Division I prospects. Gray showed his elite speed on a 90-yard kickoff return early in the fourth quarter that fueled De Smet’s hopes for a late comeback. Gray hit the turbo boost button down the left sideline and was able to out-run a speedy defender who took a good angle in pursuit. [player_tooltip player_id="197576" first="Gerard" last="Grewe"], 6-3, 210, QB, Priory, Class of 2023 Priory went on the road and came home with a 35-6 win at Clark County on Saturday night. Grewe turned in a masterful performance by completing 21 of 27 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for 132 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. (HUDL highlights) Through the first two weeks, Grewe has completed 79.2 percent of his passes for 538 yards and six touchdowns and rushed for 200 yards and three scores. [player_tooltip player_id="172286" first="Armon" last="Hill"], 6-0, 190, RB, Hazelwood East, Class of 2022 Hazelwood East bounced back from a blowout loss to Hazelwood Central in Week 1 by blowing out Riverview Gardens on Saturday and Hill led the way with three touchdowns, 218 yards rushing on nine carries, and two interceptions. A four-year varsity player, Hill has been an impact player for a few years now and he will be a player to watch this fall. [player_tooltip player_id="37532" first="LJ" last="Minner"], 6-0, 195, RB-DB, Westminster, Class of 2022 Minner went off in a 42-0 victory against visiting Clayton. The senior standout rushed for a career-high 236 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries. In the Wildcats’ season-opening loss to Ladue, Minner showed out on defense with eight tackles and an interception. He is one of the state’s top uncommitted 2022 prospects. [player_tooltip player_id="103085" first="Jamarion" last="Price"], 5-10, 180, RB, Hazelwood Central, Class of 2022 Hazelwood Central was without its starting quarterback against visiting Pattonville on Saturday and it didn’t matter. Price and the Hawks’ formidable running game took over, rushing for 328 yards in a dominant 41-13 win. Price ran for 114 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries, while teammate [player_tooltip player_id="178556" first="Lionel" last="Banks"] racked up 134 yards on 17 carries. Through the first two weeks, Price has 204 yards rushing and six touchdowns on 23 carries, an average of 8.9 yards per carry. You can follow Nate Latsch on Twitter at @natelatsch.
