DAKOTAS-- Who was found or nominated for our Dakotas Big Dogs of the Week in Week 2? We dug thru a herd of film, clips, tweets, etc. to find our 13 prospects that dominated in Week 2 across North Dakota and South Dakota. A reminder, to be included in these weekly articles make sure that you tag @PrepRedzoneDAK or @thebrickwahl87 or email your top performers to Nate@PrepRedzone.com so we can name and find as many big dogs of the week the Dakotas have to offer with stats, film, etc.! Without further ado, we unleash the 13 Dakotas Big Dogs of Week 2 along with some of the bests of the week! Dakotas Big Dogs of the Week [player_tooltip player_id="56578" first="Gabe" last="Gutierrez"] | Running Back/Linebacker | Sioux Falls Lincoln (SD) | 2023 Stat Line: Three touchdowns, blocked punt. I started off watching a film from Week 2 with Gutierrez’s tape and couldn’t be more impressed with this young man on all sides of the football field. At tailback, he provides strong durability inside the red zone at 6’2 215 pounds that can get thru contact quite easily. Sliding over to the other side of the field Gabe is a flyer to the football and has excellent speed off the snap to get to the ball carrier quickly. As a junior captain, Gutierrez showed an excellent motor on all three sides of the ball in the Patriot’s big 47-6 win over Rapid City Central. The RB punch of [player_tooltip player_id="56478" first="Angel" last="Jurshge"] and [player_tooltip player_id="56578" first="Gabe" last="Gutierrez"] for the Patriots has to be something to watch in 11AAA. Game Tape [player_tooltip player_id="56512" first="Isaiah" last="Huus"] | Running Back | Bismarck (ND) | 2022 Stat Line: 282 rushing yards, four touchdowns. 219 rushing yards in the second half alone. We haven’t seen Huus’s game tape as of yet, but when you can take a game over for 219 yards in one half of play, you’re doing something right. Huus was held to 32 rushing yards in the first half, but then turned on the jets in the second half and got the game-winning touchdown with 26 seconds to play with a 6-yard run into the end zone. Huus’s strong speed out the gates and strong footwork to get east/west quickly puts him as our #2 running back in all of the Dakotas and one of our biggest sleepers inside of the top 20 prospects with just one Northern Sun offer from the local, University of Mary. Jr Tape [player_tooltip player_id="56447" first="Jacob" last="Knuth"] | Quarterback | Harrisburg (SD) | 2022 Stat Line: 306 passing yards, six total touchdowns. I am sure by now I have burned out every adjective out there to describe [player_tooltip player_id="56447" first="Jacob" last="Knuth"]’s game since our site launched since last October, but allow me to give you even more. When I watched his game against Pierre, I saw a stronger amount of arm strength in his short passes than I have in his previous year’s film. Even though he was going up against the top team from 11AA, he still showed tremendous poise regardless of where he was going with the football. His mobility to buy himself more time was another skill set I saw that had improved as he showed quick motions to get himself out of traffic and get more space to throw. Game Tape [player_tooltip player_id="161869" first="Andrew" last="Arth"] | Running Back | Wyndmere/Lidgerwood (ND) | 2023 Stat Line: 29 carries, 198 yards, 1 catch, 14 yards, two touchdowns. Defense: 12 tackles, 1 sack, 1.5 tackles for a loss. Arth was a referral sent in by an opposing coach and although he has not posted his game tape from Week 2, I enjoyed watching his sophomore tape. The way he cuts on his runs was one of the best skillsets I saw from his film as he can break from being an inside runner to cutting back to the outside lanes at a great level. Arth to me shows solid longevity in his runs to go along with that skillset with good speed. At 5’10 180 pounds, Arth also shows some solid lower body strength when running thru contact and good balance around the sidelines while bouncing off would-be tacklers. So Tape Lincoln Carlson | Wide Receiver | Harrisburg (SD) | 2022 Carlson is perhaps the only Harrisburg Tigers wideout I didn’t have on my radar prior to their big 56-20 win over Pierre. I went back to the Hudl film room, and sure enough, could not find the film on this young man making him an under-the-radar WR to watch this season for the Tigers. From the clips I did watch over the weekend, this young man was having a field day getting long yardage separation from the Governors secondary with a great burst off the snap and averaged nearly 49 yards per catch in the opening week of the season for the Tigers. Carlson also showed great straight line speed after the catch, and is just another weapon [player_tooltip player_id="56447" first="Jacob" last="Knuth"] has to throw to behind [player_tooltip player_id="56449" first="Andrew" last="Walter"], [player_tooltip player_id="56494" first="Carter" last="Bahrenfuss"], and TE Aiden Foley amongst others. Hudl Profile Tanner Monette | Quarterback | Turtle Mountain (ND) | 2022 Stat Line: 293 passing yards Monette is one of the first prospects from Turtle Mountain we have featured after an impressive showing with nearly 300 yards passing in a loss against Williston. When I watched Monette’s game tape I found a lot of skillsets I enjoyed from an under-the-radar prospect. His precision was one of the first stick outs as he hit his wide receivers is a solid wheelhouse on each of the first plays I watched and gave them room to run. Being a multi-sport athlete, Monette also showed solid mobility outside of the pocket and used his legs and made sound throws on the run as well. The biggest thing I grasped from his tape as far as his throwing was the arm strength he showed on all three levels as they remained consistent wherever he was going with the football. Game Tape [player_tooltip player_id="119069" first="Brennan" last="Sellheim"] | Offensive Line | West Fargo Sheyenne (ND) | 2022 Stat Line: N/A Sellheim really had the upper hand in his game tape against Grand Forks Central last weekend. He showed a strong punching ability on the line with a strong drive in his hips. Sellheim did a solid job of multi-engaging with more than one defender per play on some of his tape. He also was able to drive his defender into zones well far away from where his quarterback was standing giving Grant Warkenthein plenty of time to throw the football inside the pocket. He also drove the bus to place defenders in uncomfortable areas of the field where he could rely on his teammates to finish the job on that defender if he wanted to. Sellheim is one of the biggest stockrisers you are going to see on our 2022 rankings when they come out in October. Game Tape Jacob Steele | Running Back/Linebacker | Cavalier (ND) | 2022 Stat Line: 26 carries, 178 rushing yards, one touchdown. Defense: 17 tackles and a forced fumble. Other Dakota Dogs of the Week [player_tooltip player_id="56546" first="Gavin" last="Ross"] | Running Back | Harrisburg (SD) | 2023 Stat Line: 20 carries, 203 rushing yards, two touchdowns. Nearly 10.2 yards per carry. So Tape [player_tooltip player_id="56570" first="Lincoln" last="Kienholz"] | Quarterback | Pierre (SD) | 2023 Stat Line: 380 total yards (290 passing, 90 rushing) three touchdowns. Kienholz is ranked as our #2 QB and ranked #7 overall in our Class of 2023 and sure as heck played like a top QB prospect against the Tigers. So. Tape Brysen Cleem | Quarterback/Defensive Back | Cavalier (ND) | 2022 Stat Line: 177 total yards, four touchdowns. Defense: 7 tackles (6 solo, 1 assisted), 1 pass deflection. Aidan Devine | Running Back | Fargo Shanley (ND) | 2022 Tysen Landeis | Running Back | Larimore (ND) | 2022 The Bests Best Play: It took three days of action between Sioux Falls O’Gorman and Sioux Falls Roosevelt, but in the end, it was an easy decision for us for the best play of the week as it was the pass from QB [player_tooltip player_id="56580" first="Bennett" last="Dannenbring"] to TE [player_tooltip player_id="151268" first="David" last="Alpers"] to have the number #1 play on SportsCenter’s top 10 plays on Tuesday night. [embed]https://twitter.com/OGHSKnights/status/1432840567336095744[/embed] Best Kickoff: [player_tooltip player_id="149410" first="Bryce" last="Soli"] | Harrisburg | 2022 Soli launched a ball thru the uprights on a kickoff in Harrisburg's 56-20 win over the Pierre Governors.
