Every time rankings are updated, players are going to move.
Some down, others up.
And some way up.
Between the first eight players here and the ones that follow, each of these players from around South Carolina made significant leaps in the latest Prep Red Zone Class of 2022 rankings.
[player_tooltip player_id="153264" first="Trent" last="Pearman"], QB, Daniel (↑ 58 spots)
Pearman’s hot 2020 season has kept going. Now the No. 3 ranked quarterback in the class and No. 21 player in the state overall, the Daniel senior has already thrown for 827 yards and 11 touchdowns in three games this season.
[player_tooltip player_id="153256" first="Jacobie" last="Henderson"], WR/DB, Catawba Ridge (↑ 142 spots)
The Marshall commit is a certified two-way stud for the young Catawba Ridge program. Henderson is piling up rushing yards and tackles alike. He’s already got a sack and a pick to go along with three offensive touchdowns.
[player_tooltip player_id="89314" first="Kazarius" last="Adams"], RB, Gray Collegiate (↑ 68 spots)
Through the first four games this fall, the recent Georgia State commitment has been on a tear. He’s already gone off for 766 yards and 10 touchdowns against some fierce competition through four games.
[player_tooltip player_id="91208" first="Elijah" last="Vereen"], RB/DB, North Myrtle Beach (↑ 29 spots)
Vereen was already one of the state’s better combo defensive back/linebackers heading into this year. He’s added some offensive flash, too. After two games, Vereen had six touchdowns and just shy of 400 yards rushing.
[player_tooltip player_id="89324" first="Carson" last="Arnold"], LB, Oceanside Collegiate (↑ 34 spots)
Arnold crashes the backfield and sticks with receivers and tight ends coming across the middle. He’s already got some NCAA Division-I interest, and his performances against a bear of a schedule is only going to increase that in the coming weeks.
[player_tooltip player_id="92205" first="Chase" last="Smith"], WR, Ridge View (↑ 36 spots)
We wanted to see what Smith would do after he transferred from Blythewood before moving him too far up. We saw what we thought we might in his debut. The Blazers’ seniors went for 84 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the opener.
[player_tooltip player_id="59498" first="Jesus" last="Dowdle"], LB, Gaffney (↑ 47 spots)
Dawdle had 18 total tackles after just two games for the Indians this fall. What’s more, it’s apparent that opposing coordinators are doing their best to game plan away from him. It hasn’t worked, as Dawdle helped Gaffeny to a 3-0 start.
[player_tooltip player_id="91237" first="Drew" last="Stevens"], K, North Augusta (↑ 91 spots)
Stevens, who is entrenched with his commitment to Iowa, knocked home his first eight PATs of the season and added a 33-yard field goal. The state’s top-ranked kicker will have plenty more of both before his final season at North Augusta comes to a close.
Unranked No More
A large number of players moved from the realm of the unranked. The list includes six players who jumped right into the Top 100:
[player_tooltip player_id="200663" first="Nick" last="Emmonwori"], DB, Irmo
[player_tooltip player_id="200664" first="Tyrell" last="Green"], LB, AC Flora
[player_tooltip player_id="200665" first="Alvin" last="Wilson"], DL, Beaufort
[player_tooltip player_id="200666" first="Davion" last="Joyner"], WR, Fort Dorchester
[player_tooltip player_id="200667" first="Boyce" last="Bankhead"], DB, AC Flora
[player_tooltip player_id="119250" first="Gray" last="Leaphart"], TE, Gilbert
Not too much further down the list were the likes of fellow newcomers and new Top 150 members:
[player_tooltip player_id="200691" first="Tory" last="Kelly"], LB, Gray Collegiate
[player_tooltip player_id="200692" first="Demetris" last="McKelvey"], WR, Fort Dorchester
[player_tooltip player_id="200693" first="Tyler" last="Robinson"], DB, AC Flora
[player_tooltip player_id="200694" first="Max" last="Garrido"], OL, Fort Dorchester
[player_tooltip player_id="200695" first="Jacob" last="Croffie"], DB, AC Flora
We’ll bear responsibility for some of them, as, well, we just flat out missed on several guys in 2020 and the ensuing film sessions. On a few, though, their new-found status is the product of a strong last four months.
Either way, they have our attention now.
