Basketball Stars Standing out in Football: SD

The state of South Dakota has many talented football and basketball players. In this article, we want to look at guys that are excellent at both sports. <h2><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>BASKETBALL STARS &amp; FOOTBALL STANDOUTS</strong></span></h2> <img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1283702" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/07/bp-crop-1125x739-1631758283-300x197.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="197" /> <strong>Brayden Pankonen (2023) |5-10 G| Dell Rapids</strong> <strong>FB Position |WR/CB| </strong>He is agile and quick on the court. I imagine he blows by corners and locks up wideouts when on defense. In basketball Brayden scores 3 points at a time as a shooter and in football, he scores 6 points at a time as a WR. The Quarriers are sitting at 2-1 and Brayden has played a big part in their high scoring affairs in the last two games. <img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1283674" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/07/lundin-1-crop-1125x739-1631755915-300x197.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="197" /> <strong>Cael Lundin (2022) |6-3 G| Tea Area</strong> <strong>FB Position |QB| </strong>An All-State hoops player and a high-level recruit, Lundin is impressive with the rock in his hands. Cael has also been getting the job done with the pigskin in his hands. Lundin has thrown 4 touchdowns and he has the Titans sitting with a perfect 3-0 record. The same can be said about his play on the field. He is committed to SDSU for football. Alpers is an absolute animal. Nobody wants to be lined up opposite of David. Drew is a gamer on the court and on the field. In football, Norberg is a precision passer that is putting up monster numbers. Through week 3, Drew is leading AA in passing yards with 576 and he is tied for first in TD passes with 7. Garry is strong and fast on the field and can score in a heartbeat. Kalen is part of the stingy De Smet defense that has not given up a point in the last 3 games. On offense, Garry is an unbelievable wideout. In week 1, Kalen had a play that made the ESPN Sports Center Top 10 plays. This kid is a treasure in both basketball and football. <a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/07/Jeffrey-Worth3.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1241153" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/07/Jeffrey-Worth3.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="200" /></a> <strong>Jeff Worth (2022) |5-11 PG| Tea Area</strong> <strong>FB Position |CB| </strong>He is clutch and timely in both sports. Worth can make a play when his team needs it. Jeff is a lockdown defender in basketball and football. He will have a great year in hoops, no question about it. On the field, Worth is already standing out. He has helped the Titans to a 3-0 record. Jeff is an All-State DB that knows how to win. <img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1283471" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/06/lincoln-1-crop-1125x739-1631737599-300x197.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="197" /> <strong>Lincoln Keinholz (2023) |6-3 G| Pierre</strong> <strong>FB Position |QB| </strong>He was great this summer with SD Attack in AAU ball. Lincoln opened many eyes with his athletic plays and impressive dunks. Kienholz is a standout at every sport he plays. He is a D-1 athlete, that is obvious. Football is absolutely one of his best sports. Keinholz is an elite QB in SD. In three weeks of play, Lincoln has passed for 552 yards (2nd in AA SD) and has thrown 7 touchdowns (tied for first in AA SD). <strong>Rett Osthus (2022) |6-0 G| De Smet</strong> <strong>FB Position |WR/CB| </strong>He is a very quick kid that excels at basketball and football. In both sports, Osthus shines when the game is going fast and he can make fast-twitch reactions. In football, him and Garry make up one of the best WR combos in SD. On defense, Rett is an integral part of the 3-game shutout that the Bulldogs have going. De Smet won it in hoops last year, can they do it in football? If they do, Rett will have a major role. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="93092" first="Sam" last="Rohlfs"] (2022) |6-3 G| Aberdeen Central </strong> <strong>FB Position |QB| </strong>In hoops Sam is a stat stuffer for a very good team. Look for him to have a standout year in basketball, exactly how the football season has been going. Rohlfs is a college-level athlete that excels at everything he does. This fall Sam has the Eagles sitting at 3-0 and he is racking up the numbers. Rohlfs has 469 passing yards (3rd in AA) and 6 touchdown passes (2nd in AA). Tash is a strong, powerful, and skilled basketball player. Lunday is a beast on the football field. I would not want to be a player in his sights! Tash is great basketball player and an excellent football player for the Fliers. <a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/08/tate-crop-3542x2326-1628221156.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1260411" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2021/08/tate-crop-3542x2326-1628221156-300x197.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="197" /></a> <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="160906" first="Tate" last="VanOtterLoo"] (2023) |6-5 F| Beresford</strong> <strong>FB Position |QB| </strong>I watched him late in the summer during AAU hoops and he was very impressive. I have heard that Tate is having the same effect on everyone during the football season. He is long, athletic, instinctive, unselfish. Those are all great qualities of a hoops player and a QB. So far Beresford is 2-1 and Tate has thrown for 321 yeards. Nobody should be surprised that Ashley is a stud QB as well. Taylen plays like a high school version of Kyler Murray. His highlight film is unreal and we are only 3 weeks into the season. Last week Ashley had 5 touchdowns in the first half (2 rushing and 3 throwing). Taylen is one of most electric players in the state.
