Now that the Class of 2023 rankings have been released, it’s time to look at the top-ranked player at each position for players with Midland’s connections. Several players are new to the list with movement up and down the rankings. We have 114 players ranked overall but want that list to continue to grow. Kershaw, Lexington, Newberry, Richland, and Sumter Counties are covered in this roundup.
[player_tooltip player_id="199432" first="Tanner" last="Staton"], QB. Brookland-Cayce
The junior has a big-time arm and he’s not afraid to tuck it and run when needed. He plays bigger than his 6-2, 195-pound frame. If he continues to develop, he could become one of the higher profile recruits in the area. Also, a baseball prospect.
[player_tooltip player_id="91136" first="Jarvis" last="Green"], RB, Dutch Fork
Green needs no introduction to college recruiters. The 5-11, 190-pound junior is on the radar of several Power 5 schools and that offer list could continue to grow. Green has a low center of gravity, runs well behind his pads and is hard to bring down. Is also a capable receiver. He’s ranked No. 7 overall.
[player_tooltip player_id="202725" first="Chris" last="Lofton"], WR, A.C. Flora
A big-play threat for the top-ranked Falcons program. Lofton is 5-10, 165 pounds but does play bigger. He is not afraid to make a catch in traffic and has displayed moves running the ball out of the backfield as well.
[player_tooltip player_id="202728" first="Kendarius" last="Kinard"], OL, A.C. Flora
Kinard is 6-4, 300 pounds but moves well for his size. Before it’s all said and done, Kinard could move way up this board. A great runner blocker that is also solid in pass protection.
[player_tooltip player_id="202754" first="Tracy" last="Stephens"], TE, Ridge View
Stephens moves well for his 6-4, 230-pound body. He is extremely solid blocking at the line of scrimmage and his pass-catching skills have continued to blossom.
[player_tooltip player_id="89338" first="Xzavier" last="McLeod"], DL, Camden
The No. 4 ranked player in the Class of 2023 is a big-time prospect. He’s 6-5, 295 pounds and hard to move. Plus, he has a motor that does not stop. He will be a steal for whoever gets him on the next level.
[player_tooltip player_id="202737" first="David" last="Wilson"], LB, Spring Valley
Wilson is a hard hitter for what has become a very aggressive Viking’s defense. He can cover a lot of ground and moves sideline-to-sideline very well. He could add weight to his 6-q, 205 pounds and not miss a beat.
[player_tooltip player_id="146358" first="Zion" last="Fuller"], DB, Spring Valley
Another defender for the Vikings that has shown good coverage skills plus the ability to come up and make a tackle when necessary. He is 6-1, 175 so can match-up with taller receivers as well as the speedy, slot-like guys.
