Trying to rank the top 300 players in the Class of 2022 is a daunting task but the staff at Prep Red Zone did just that last week.
There were several movers and shakers among players in the Midlands. We look at the top-ranked player at each position covering Calhoun, Kershaw, Lexington, Newberry, Richland, and Sumter Counties in this roundup.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="59480" first="DeQuandre" last="Smith"]</strong>, QB, Spring Valley
Several schools are recruiting Smith as a defensive back, but he wants to get a shot to prove himself at quarterback. He is a three-year starter and is a dual-threat option for the Vikings. The No. 16 ranked prospect in the state.

The Michigan verbal commit is off to a fast start to his senior season. He just had 149 yards and five touchdowns on just 10 carries last week. He’s powerful and has a sneaky burst of speed that translates well to the next level. He comes in at No. 8 overall.

The No. 5 player in the state has trimmed his list to a final 6 – four SEC schools and two ACC schools. Whoever lands the 6-1, 180-pound speedster is getting a gifted route-runner and someone that could be dangerous in the return game.

The 6-4, 285 tackle is the No. 34 player in the state. By the time he reaches college, he likely will be around 300 pounds and a candidate to find early playing time.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="119250" first="Gray" last="Leaphart"]</strong>, TE, Gilbert
Leaphart is a player that has seen his stock rise quickly over the last four months. He checks in at No. 97 overall He is a two-way player for the Indians but his 6-4, 220 pounds frame should fit well as a college tight end.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="59473" first="Davin" last="Jackson"]</strong>, DL, Sumter
The N.C. State verbal commit creates havoc on the defensive front for Sumter. He is 6-2, 240 pounds and could very easily add muscle as he transitions to the college level. He is the No. 22 overall prospect.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="200664" first="Tyrell" last="Green"]</strong>, LB, A.C. Flora
Green, who is 6-0, 195 pounds, went from unranked in the previous rankings all the way up to the No. 60 player overall. He is a three-year starter and is quickly moving up the recruiting board for several schools.

The 5-10, 170-pound corner comes in at No. 19 overall in the rankings. He has shutdown skills and is on the radar of several FBS programs.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="153255" first="Mason" last="Suber"]</strong>, K, Chapin
Suber is listed as a punter, but he handles kickoff and place-kicking duties for the Eagles as well. Rarely does he have a kick-off returned, he hardly misses from 45 yards and in and his punting can flip the field very quickly. He’s a weapon for unbeaten Chapin.
