With so many teams starting out with a perfect record, we will see how many can remain that way as quality opponents are ready to make a statement.
As you will notice from our weekly Top 25 ranking, several teams will clash on this competitive Friday night.
Here are 10 games to watch:
2. Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons (4A, 2-0) at Gainesville Buchholz (7A, 3-0). The defending 4A state champions are on the road – with a 5-hour ride to Gainesville to play a Buchholz teams that has a chance to make a statement. The Chiefs have not played their best football in the opening game and have a chance to solidify their lofty ranking.
3. Venice (8A, 2-0) at Sarasota (8A, 3-0). On paper this is a mismatch, but the very fact that this is a district game and the Sailors have been playing solid football to start the season, makes this one at least to keep an eye on. The Indians are stacked and have played a ridiculous schedule already.
4. Tampa Jesuit (6A, 3-0) at 25. Tampa Hillsborough (6A, 2-1). An interesting district matchup between two of Tampa’s better programs. Jesuit has already shown that they can lineup against the best – while the Terriers will have that opportunity this evening. Tough loss to Tampa Bay Tech will fuel them.
5. Sanford Seminole (8A, 3-0) at Flagler Palm Coast (8A, 2-0). One of the top teams in Florida is on the road – and while Flagler Palm Coast has gotten off to an amazing start, it may not be enough to derail a team that is running on all cylinders. Still a game that you want to at least follow.
10. Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna (3A, 2-1) at Buford, Georgia (6A, 3-0). Winners of three of the past four 3A state titles and off to a solid start is fine, but the Lions are on the road against the No. 1 team in Georgia. Can Chaminade’s defense will need to be at its very finest.
16. Lakeland (7A, 3-0) at Lakeland Lake Gibson (7A, 1-2). No getting around the fact that these are two big time rivals, and while the Dreadnaughts have been mighty impressive, do not sleep on the Braves, who are as talented as anyone and are more than capable of making this a game.
Hialeah Champagnat Catholic (2A, 2-1) at Fort Meade (1A, 2-0). It has gotten to the point for the two-time defending 2A state champion Lions that finding a game is not easy at all. Enter the Miners, who are unbeaten and are a different team at home. This should be a test for both teams – and it was made at the last minute!
Delray Atlantic (7A, 2-1) at St. Petersburg Lakewood (4A, 3-0). This is another game that many have overlooked – and while Lakewood has gotten off to another fast start and has plenty of talent, understand that the Eagles are always loaded with talent and solid coaching. This should be mighty entertaining.
St. Augustine (6A, 1-1) at Middleburg (6A, 3-0). It’s been a long time since Middleburg has been 4-0, and to accomplish that, there is a huge task in front of them – with a Yellow Jacket team that was edged out by Jacksonville Bolles last week. This is one of those contests that will certainly show where both teams stand in the district.
South Fort Myers (6A, 3-0) at Naples Barron Collier (6A, 2-1). One of the programs that has silently won the first three games of the season – with a real chance to remain one of the few unbeaten programs in southwest Florida after this week. Barron Collier is still talented and can make a major statement with a win this evening. A really good game to catch.
