Martell Mora Martell Mora 5'9" | 185 lbs | RB Santa Fe High | 2022 State NM , Santa Fe: After a summer opening the eyes of college recruiters, Mora went out in Week 1 and confirmed what we already knew – he’s one of the top players in the state. He rushed for 180 yards, scored four touchdowns, intercepted a pass and had a big punt return against Robertson. In other words, he did it all.
Exodus Ayers, La Cueva: Was there a bigger Week 1 revelation than Ayers? Already an outstanding basketball prospect, Ayers has brought his elite athleticism to the football field.
Alexavier Carreon Alexavier Carreon 6'1" | RB Jal | 2023 State NM , Jal: Carreon’ numbers from Jal’s epic 63-56 victory over Texico are staggering. He rushed 29 times for 395 yards and SEVEN touchdowns while also scoring a defensive TD with a scoop and score. His 395 yards rushing is the ninth highest single game total in New Mexico history.
Brody Whitaker, Albuq. Academy: Just a sophomore, Whitaker played a big part in Academy’s dominating defensive performance at Tohatchi with two sacks for loss of 18 yards, two more tackles for loss and 4 QB hurries. Whitaker is only getting started.
Isaac Hinson Isaac Hinson 6'0" | 185 lbs | WR Lovington | 2022 State NM , Lovington: Hinson is one of the best two-way players in New Mexico and he proved it again in Lovington’s 14-6 road win at Santa Teresa. Defensively, he had 8 solo tackles, 3 assists, 3 TFL, 1 interception, 2 fumbles recovered and 1 forced fumble. On special teams, he had a block of a PAT attempt. Offensively, he contributed 3 catches for 18 yards.
Colton Graham Colton Graham 5'10" | 165 lbs | QB Hobbs | 2022 State NM , Hobbs: There was no better ‘feel good’ Week 1 win in New Mexico than Hobbs’ 21-0 win at Clovis. Graham threw for 134 yards on 12-of-17 passing, finding six different receivers, and rushed for 78 yards. He scored the Eagles’ first TD on a 1-yard sneak before securing the win with a 22-yard scoring strike to junior Jordan Chism in the fourth quarter.
Brandon Furbee Brandon Furbee 6'3" | QB Farmington | 2022 State NM , Farmington: After transferring from Grants, Furbee’s QB debut for the Scorpions was flawless. Furbee is tall and can make all the throws. Farmington was already the best team in the Four Corners but with Furbee at QB, they are legitimate Class 5A title contenders.
Paul Cieremans Paul Cieremans 5'10" | 195 lbs | QB Los Lunas | 2023 State NM , Los Lunas: Cieremans was arguably the top 2023 QB in the state in Week 1, throwing for two touchdowns and running for two more in the Tigers’ big road win at Piedra Vista. Showcasing his dual threat abilities, Cieremans’ 35-yard TD scamper in the final seconds of the first half was the back breaker.
Kragen Cadman, Kirtland Central: Making his first career start at QB, Cadman accounted for three TDs (two rushing + one passing), in the Broncos’ 28-21 loss to Silver.
Diego Snell-Martinez, Bloomfield: Energized the Bloomfield offense with 87 yards rushing on 11 carries, making the Bobcats’ offense two-dimensional against St. Pius X.
James Jenkins James Jenkins 6'0" | WR Hope Christian | 2022 State NM , Hope Christian: Jenkins, a sophomore WR on Hope’s 2019 Class 3A state championship winning team, is now the Huskies QB. He rushed for 136 yards and threw for 83 more in a win over Portales.
Aidan St. John, Eldorado: He carried 24 times for 144 yards and a pair of 1-yard TD runs in the first half as the Eagles dominated the line of scrimmage against West Mesa.
Calvin Cox Calvin Cox 5'9" | 185 lbs | RB Mayfield | 2022 State NM , Mayfield: One-half of Mayfield’s dynamic running back duo ( Jose Montoya Jose Montoya 5'8" | RB Mayfield | 2022 State NM is the other half), Cox scored on a 4-yard run and caught a 58-yard TD to key Mayfield’s 40-13 win over Manzano.
Dallas Boyd Dallas Boyd 5'10" | 175 lbs | QB Las Cruces | 2022 State NM , Las Cruces: The Bulldawgs couldn’t have asked for much more from their new QB in the exciting 27-20 win over Volcano Vista. After Boyd ran 44 yards to put the ball inside the 30-yard line, he and 2024 WR Zakye Hawkins flipped momentum in the final seconds before halftime when they connected on a TD pass to tie the score. Boyd scored three TDs and finished with 237 yards of total offense.
Malachi Thymes Malachi Thymes 5'8" | 165 lbs | RB Sandia | 2023 State NM , Sandia: Thymes got the 2021 season started last Thursday night with a spectacular performance against Valley. He rushed 21 times for 238 yards and three touchdowns. His 91-yard TD gallop came on Sandia’s first offensive snap of the season. Sandia amassed 588 yards of total offense.
Dalton Speis Dalton Speis 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Sandia | 2022 State NM , Sandia: Speis added to Thymes’ big night with two touchdown receptions and a blocked punt for a TD. He pulled down a 29-yard TD catch with just over a minute left in the first half and had a 17-yard TD grab in the 3rd quarter.
Lucas Coriz Lucas Coriz 6'2" | QB St. Michael's | 2022 State NM , St. Michael’s: Coriz contributed on both sides of the ball in St. Michael’s 30-3 victory at Taos. As the Horsemen’s QB, he passed for 125 yards and rushed for 114, including an electrifying 50-yard TD run midway through the second quarter. Later, he had a 65-yard run. He also lined up at defensive end and helped stymie the Tigers defense all night long
Julian Munoz, Capital: The Jaguars QB keyed his team’s huge 55-20 road win at Grants with 224 yards passing and 123 yards rushing. His performance gave Joaquin Garcia a victory in his debut as Capital head coach.
Francisco Diaz, Capital: He complemented Munoz with 169 yards rushing and two touchdowns at Grants.
Kellan Gehres Kellan Gehres 5'10" | 150 lbs | WR Albuquerque Academy | 2023 State NM , Albuquerque Academy: The Chargers ended the 50-0 rout of Tohatchi before halftime as Gehres had 1 receiving TD, a punt return for a TD and two interceptions on defense.
Josh Gerardo Josh Gerardo 6'1" | QB Volcano Vista | 2022 State NM , Volcano Vista: The Hawks fell to Las Cruces in a tight battle, 27-20, but Gerardo had an outstanding game by completing 20-of-32 passes for 284 yards
Elijah Montoya, Alamogordo: Montoya threw 3 touchdown passes of 11 yards, 49 yards and 74 yards in the first half as Alamogordo trounced Valencia
Joey Reza Joey Reza 5'11" | 170 lbs | RB Deming | 2022 State NM , Deming: On the first play after the Deming defense stopped Gadsden on 4th down in the first quarter, Reza scampered 86 yards for the TD. In the second quarter, he had a 3-yard TD run and 2-point conversion. He added his third md fourth TDs in the second half as Deming polish ed off the 44-6 win.
Dane Naylor Dane Naylor QB Carlsbad | 2023 State NM , Carlsbad: Naylor dominated the second half of the Eddy County War as he threw a touchdown pass, ran for a touchdown and kicked a field goal to propel Cavemen past Artesia. His 22-yard-scoring run in the third quarter on a 4th and 19 sealed the deal, and took most of the steam out of the Bulldogs.
