Week 0 Preview: York and Lancaster Counties

The opening week of the 2021 high school football season for York County teams offer games showcasing some of the top stars in our PRZ SC rankings while also featuring some intriguing matchups that involve one cross county team that you’ll want to keep your eye on. All games will kickoff Friday at 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Clover at Dorman – Coach Brian Lane will take his Blue Eagles down to the Upstate with sophomore quarterback Joe Boyd <a href="http://twitter.com/JoeBoyd123">(@JoeBoyd123)</a>, who has a strong arm and can make plays on the run. Wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="153265" first="Darius" last="Bowser"] <a href="https://twitter.com/BowserDarius">(@BowserDarius)</a> offers Boyd an outlet to throw to on the outside. Defensive back [player_tooltip player_id="89317" first="Jy" last="Martin"] <a href="http://twitter.com/jymartin_">(@jymartin_) </a>may be one of the more underrated defensive players in the state with his ability to react and that will be put to the test Friday. Mauldin at York (as of 7:52 p.m. Wednesday) - York's game against Mauldin and next week's game against Clover has been cancelled. York will attempt to reschedule. Senior wide receiver and defensive back and Marshall commit [player_tooltip player_id="153256" first="Jacobie" last="Henderson"] <a href="https://twitter.com/cobieh10">(@cobieh10)</a> will anchor the defense with his ability to win in one-on-coverage. Fort Mill wide receiver J.J. Ogwal <a href="https://twitter.com/jj_ogwal">(@jj_ogwal)</a> and quarterback Kyle Neibch <a href="https://twitter.com/kneibch_11">(@kneibch_11)</a> will anchor things on offense to try and pull off a massive upset in Week 0. Greenville at Rock Hill – Rock Hill’s defensive front anchored by Maurice Bonneau <a href="https://twitter.com/MauriceB55">(@MauriceB55)</a> and Zay Robinson <a href="https://twitter.com/zayrobb">(@zayrobb)</a> had an excellent outing during their scrimmage last Friday. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="139293" first="Matthew" last="Wilson"] <a href="https://twitter.com/matthew76905115">(@matthew76905115)</a> has a great arm and can make plays on the run. You can expect the Falcons to put up a ton of points beginning on Friday. The 2020 version of this game was an overtime thriller at Nation Ford. With quarterback Blake Goode <a href="https://twitter.com/BlakeGoode3">(@BlakeGoode3)</a> and sophomore running back [player_tooltip player_id="139305" first="Jaden" last="Singletary"] <a href="https://twitter.com/JadenSingletar6">(@JadenSingletar6)</a> returning for the Warriors, could the same thing happen Friday off Highway 521? Saturday – 7:00PM at District 3 Stadium in Rock Hill South Pointe at Northwestern – This game is probably the biggest in the state for Week 0. Northwestern has plenty of skill players including quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="89316" first="Will" last="Mattison"] <a href="https://twitter.com/Will1Mattison">(@Will1Mattison) </a>and wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="146372" first="Elijah" last="Caldwell"]-Peele <a href="https://twitter.com/7Caldwell_">(@7Caldwell_)</a>. South Pointe’s defensive line will be looking to make an early statement with the trio of [player_tooltip player_id="139304" first="Chris" last="Dixon"] <a href="https://twitter.com/Cjdixon_417">(@Cjdixon_417)</a>, [player_tooltip player_id="153268" first="Anquerrious" last="Davis"] <a href="https://twitter.com/AnquerriousD">(@AnquerriousD)</a> and A.J. Miller <a href="https://twitter.com/Ajmiller92">(@Ajmiller92)</a>. It will be interesting to watch the matchup between Northwestern’s receivers and the South Pointe secondary.
