The season got kicked off this week during the annual Corky Kell Classic where two games were played at West Forsyth High School. Neither game was close, and the two winning teams, Cherokee and West Forsyth, had big games from their quarterback.
In the first game, three-star QB AJ Swann led his Cherokee Warriors against a sloppy Mays team who shot themselves in the foot over and over again in the first half. Mays gave Cherokee every opportunity to score, and after a couple sloppy possessions, Swann lead the offense to score after score for the rest of the game. The 6-foot-3 220-pounder started connected in deep balls in the 2nd quarter and showed off his D1 arm. The Maryland commit showed great footwork in the pocket, did a nice job of buying time, and was able to launch the ball deep down the field when given enough time. Once he knew he could take advantage of Mays’ secondary, Swann decided to continue to push the ball down the field.
In 2.5 quarters of play, Swann went 14/18 for 247 yards and four touchdowns. He was accurate, poised, and threw the ball accurately down the field. Swann connected on a 40-yard score to Caleb Richardson, a 36 and 24-yard score to Aidan Moore, and a 15-yard TD pass to Adarrius Harshaw Adarrius Harshaw 5'9" | 155 lbs | WR Cherokee | 2022 State GA . Swann would go on to lead Cherokee to a 52-6 victory.

The 2nd game was another blowout as West Forsyth dominated Carver Atlanta in a 38-8 win. Like Cherokee, West Forsyth made a lot plays in the passing game as junior QB Keegan Stover threw for four touchdowns in the victory. Last year’s starter for the Wolverines, Stover looks to have taken a big step forward and really played well in the 2nd half. The Wolverine offense struggled a bit early on, but once they found some chemistry they were able to put up points in a hurry in the 2nd half.
Like Swann, Stover was able to buy time and kept a lot of plays alive with his mobility. He was accurate in the red-zone and came up with some big throws to put the game away in the 3rd quarter. Stover got the Wolverines on the scoreboard when he found receiver Jaycen Harris for a 32-yard score. He then found big tight end Oscar Delp Oscar Delp 6'5" | 220 lbs | TE West Forsyth | 2022 State GA for a 24-yard score to give them a two-touchdown lead. In the 2nd half, Stover connected with sophomore Ryder Stewart where Stover bought time and found his wide-open target in the end-zone.
Overall, it was a big night for both QBs who appear to be on their way to excellent seasons this fall.
