Breaking down the top San Diego QBs to watch in the fall.
[player_tooltip player_id="141886" first="Jackson" last="Stratton"]- La Jolla, 2022
The Washington commit is not only one of the top QBs in San Diego but also the entire state. Stratton posted impressive numbers during the shortened spring season efficiently completing 70% of his passes and throwing for over 1,200 yards and 19 touchdowns. As a passer, he has an incredibly strong and accurate arm putting touch on the ball to find receivers on deep throws and squeezing the ball into tight windows over the middle. He shows comfort hanging in the pocket waiting for receivers to get open and has the mobility to extend plays making throws on the run. Washington is currently his only Power-5 offer but with the tools and talent this QB possesses he should continue to pick up major D-1 offers and climb the ranks as one of California’s top passers during his senior season.

Mirer is one of the best QBs at one of the best programs in San Diego. Mirer, the son of a former NFL QB, has elite arm talent and tremendous size at 6’6 235 lbs. He has an explosive arm that can push the ball downfield with accuracy and processes reads quickly on underneath routes. He utilizes his natural athleticism well moving within the pocket and can throw on the run in designed rollouts. Expect some West Coast schools to get involved in his recruitment after picking up his first offer from Michigan in 2020.

[player_tooltip player_id="115456" first="Julian" last="Sayin"]- Carlsbad, 2024
Sayin is the youngest QB on this list and the only first-year starter heading into the 2021 season. His freshman season was spent as the backup to his brother, Aidan, a 3-star prospect now at Penn, but was impressive in the snaps he took and has seen his recruitment skyrocket during offseason camps and workouts. He now holds 15 offers in total and from some of the most recognizable brands in college football such as Georgia, Texas, USC, and Florida. Sayin is a gifted passer with a strong arm capable of making every throw. At his age, his accuracy and quick release are off the charts. Sayin’s recruitment should be exciting to watch over the next few years and could be considered among the nation’s elite prep QBs down the road.

[player_tooltip player_id="187303" first="Gunnar" last="Hensley"]- Mission Hills, 2022
Hensley leads another one of San Diego’s top programs as he and Mission Hills look to build on their undefeated spring campaign. Hensley is a natural passer with fluid mechanics and advanced fundamentals for the position. His instincts and patience within the pocket are college-ready and his toughness finishing throws facing heavy rush will definitely appeal to college coaches. He’s a smooth athlete with deceptive quickness evading the rush and solid top-end speed scrambling for gains. Hensley recently took an unofficial visit to San Jose St. and will be an under-the-radar prospect to keep an eye on throughout the season.

Kiah Reed- El Camino, 2022
Reed was recognized as one of San Diego’s Stock Risers and makes the list as one of the QBs to watch this season. He’s an athletic QB that can make a variety of throws and likes to spread the ball all over the field. He shows excellent accuracy throwing intermediate routes towards the sideline and pushing the ball downfield. Reed helped spark the El Camino offense to a state championship run during his 2019 sophomore season and will be looking to put together another strong campaign this fall.
