Cass Technical High School in Detroit has a long history of great players and a great tradition. From Jourdan Lewis to Guy Frazier to Donovan Peoples-Jones, there is a long lineage of tremendous football players to come through the school and even make it to the NFL. In 2021, there is a solid mix of outstanding players from the classes of 2022 and 2023, respectively. Let's take a look at some big impact players for Cass Tech as they prepare for this upcoming season.

[player_tooltip player_id="162650" first="Jalen" last="Thompson"]

Thompson is the number one player for Prep Redzone Michigan in the class of 2023. He has a dynamic combination of athleticism and size that has not even reached its full potential. When pass rushing, he keeps his body low to the ground and his eyes up the field. Even when the quarterback gets outside of the pocket, Thompson possesses the speed to track him down and pick up a sack. He utilizes a number of pass rush moves but the most noticeable is his push pull method, where he locks on with an offensive tackle and quickly pulls them out of the way. With another solid season under his belt, Thompson will only get better as he prepares for the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id="30143" first="Jackson" last="Pruitt"]

There is a theme on Cass Tech this season of big offensive lineman that can play smash-mouth football. Pruitt, the 6'5, 285 pound interior lineman has a whopping 33 offers and counting to his name. Pruitt is currently the 22nd ranked player in Michigan on the Prep Redzone rankings due to his impressive technique and attitude on the field.

[player_tooltip player_id="30286" first="Deone" last="Walker"]

Alabama, Georgia, and Michigan are among the offers that Walker has received. He has 30 offers in total, with teams recognizing his elite size and ability to get past offensive lineman with speed and agility. At the next level, teams will utilize Walkers size and athleticism to move him around and create mismatches, as he does with Cass Tech at the moment. Walker was one of my favorite studies on film during summer scouting and he should continue to get better.

[player_tooltip player_id="30153" first="Masai" last="Reddick"]

Another big time offensive tackle for Cass Tech, Reddick recently committed to play football at Tennessee. He has a big frame at 6'5. 330, and defensive tackles struggle to get their hand placement on him, especially in pass rushing scenarios. He has the ability to sink his hips and drive defenders off of the ball in run blocking as well. With the commitment behind him, Reddick should have an outstanding season for the Technicians.

[player_tooltip player_id="30164" first="Nate" last="Briggs"]

The 5'8 cornerback and wide receiver from Detroit shows tremendous grit on the field despite his smaller stature. He can fight off blocks well and get after the ball carrier or shadow a receiver downfield in man coverage. On the offensive side, Briggs is simply a playmaker who can score from any part of the field. His straight line speed is electric and its hard to catch him if he gets going. He's currently holding offers from Southern Miss and Central Michigan with more offers on the way.

[player_tooltip player_id="30166" first="Karriem" last="Sharrieff"]

Sharrieff may be 5'11, but he plays like he's 6'2. He has a big lower body that can punish defenders but also posses elusiveness to get by them on the outside. He is a solid pass blocker and can use his lower body strength to launch into opponents. Sharrieff's vision on the field is second to none, as he reads holes quickly and shoots through the gap to pick up big chunks of yardage. The sky is the limit for the Cass Tech running back as he enters his senior season with an offer from Central Michigan.

[player_tooltip player_id="103583" first="Darius" last="King"]

There's three things that every scout looks for in a linebackers. Quickness, size, and strength. King possesses all three of those traits and more. He can speed rush from the outside linebacker position or man the middle and create turnovers. Big things are coming for King as he enters his senior season.

[player_tooltip player_id="30329" first="Javen" last="Sewell"]

The speedy Junior athlete with offers from Morgan State and Central Michigan is expected to have a big season in 2021. He's impossible to bring down in the open field, as he uses his shiftiness and elusiveness to get around defenders for touchdowns. He's not scared to go up and get a jump ball despite his frame and he's fearless on the field. He plays the same way at cornerback, shadowing receivers and giving them no room to breath. He's a name to look out for as the class of 2023 starts to take shape.
