It is no secret that the Center Grove Trojans can boast of one of the most complete rosters in Indiana. Earlier this week, we evaluated six of the 12 players that Center Grove has in our prospect database. Today, we will take a look at the other six prospects. These six are elite players who have already begun to turn heads. All six will be serious contributors to the Trojans’ hopes of repeating as Class 6A state champions.
[player_tooltip player_id="98011" first="Jackson" last="Griffin"], 5’11, 180 pounds, Defensive Back, Senior
[player_tooltip player_id="98011" first="Jackson" last="Griffin"] enters his senior season at number 15 in the Indiana defensive back rankings for the Class of 2022. Griffin is very fast, and he uses his mobility well in pass coverage as well as on blitzes. Griffin is outstanding in coverage. He moves his feet well, and he does a good job getting out of his backpedal. Griffin is terrific as a blitzer. Griffin matches his speed with great tenacity to create pressure off the edge. Griffin is a solid tackler, and somebody who I believe will climb the state rankings this season.
[player_tooltip player_id="39049" first="Tayven" last="Jackson"], 6’4, 195, pounds, Quarterback, Senior
[player_tooltip player_id="39049" first="Tayven" last="Jackson"] begins the 2021 season as the top-ranked senior quarterback, and the number five-rated player in the Class of 2022. An electrifying dual-threat quarterback, Jackson is verbally committed to Tennessee. Jackson is the type of playmaker who can make a difference early in his time in Knoxville. As a junior, Jackson posted a 113.7 quarterback rating. Jackson has great accuracy, and he possesses the decision-making skills of a Power 5 quarterback. Jackson passed for over 1,700 yards, recording 17 touchdowns, while throwing just five interceptions.
[player_tooltip player_id="39057" first="James" last="Schott"], 6’4, 220 pounds, Defensive Lineman, Senior
[player_tooltip player_id="39057" first="James" last="Schott"] is ranked as the number seven defensive lineman in the Class of 2022. [player_tooltip player_id="39057" first="James" last="Schott"] is another player who is receiving FBS interest. Schott is a game-wrecking defensive end for Center Grove. Schott has good speed at defensive end. He gets off the ball well, and it is very difficult for the offensive tackle to stay in front of him. Schott does a great job of keeping a low center of gravity. Schott has long arms and he uses his hands very well. He uses good hand placement to discard the block. Schott is a great special teams contributor, covering kickoffs and blocking on punt returns.
[player_tooltip player_id="136912" first="Harrison" last="Stomps"], 6’4, 205 pounds, Wide Receiver, Senior
[player_tooltip player_id="136912" first="Harrison" last="Stomps"] is underrated wide receiver, who is key to the Center Grove passing game. Stomps is a very good route-runner. He excels at winning his matchup in man coverage, and finding the soft spots in zone coverage. Stomps is a physical receiver. Stomps is a reliable receiver, who can make contested catches look simple. He holds on to the ball very well in traffic. If Stomps is not the one to make the big play, he opens things up for the rest of the offense to do so. He is an outstanding blocker, giving running backs and his fellow receivers space to operate.
[player_tooltip player_id="39046" first="Daniel" last="Weems"], 5’11, 205 pounds, Running Back, Senior
[player_tooltip player_id="39046" first="Daniel" last="Weems"] is the second-ranked running back in the Class of 2022, and number 34 player overall in the class. Weems is a shifty running back, who accelerates through the hole. Weems is very elusive, but even when making moves, he runs with tremendous balance. He can make instant changes of direction, and leave defenders completely bewildered. In the open field, it is very difficult to tackle [player_tooltip player_id="39046" first="Daniel" last="Weems"]. He has, not just the ability to evade, but overpower any would-be tackler.
[player_tooltip player_id="107290" first="Drew" last="Wheat"], 5’10, 160 pounds, Running Back, Junior
It would be difficult to find a one-two backfield punch better than what Center Grove has. First with Weems, and [player_tooltip player_id="107290" first="Drew" last="Wheat"], defensive fronts will face a herculean task to stop the Trojans’ rushing attack. As a sophomore, Wheat racked up half a dozen touchdown runs for Center Grove. Now as an upperclassman, Wheat will be ready to take the next step in his career. But Wheat’s abilities are certainly not limited to just offense. He is an outstanding kickoff and punt returner, capable of setting the offense up in desirable field position.
