Dontrell Johnson – Concordia – RB/WR – 6’3″ 185 lbs
Johnson looked fantastic and was able to score early in the game. He was making players miss and reading his zones and cuts right. He was squaring up his shoulders and embracing for contact with lowering his shoulders and putting 2 hands on the ball. The basic fundamentals were in full display Friday. He was sliding through contact and fighting for that extra yard on his way down. They relied on him and he came through.
Jace Parnin – Concordia – WR – 5’11″ 190 lbs
Parnin was playing the slot role and he looked good. He does look shorter than 5’11″ but it could just be me. It never affects him and he’s willing to layout in the middle of the field. He caught a pass over the middle and made 3 guys miss before hitting the endzone for a 40 yard TD reception. Parnin showed Friday that he has the speed to make a break-away play. He’s currently a 0-star recruit and doesn’t have any offers, but if he continues to perform like that he’s going to land some offers. However, all of that is dependent if he wants them. His current recruitment efforts are in basketball so he currently has both options available if he wants them.
Landon Kaschinske – Concordia – DB – 5’9″ 170 lbs
Kaschinske was starting at Safety but both of his major plays were on special teams. The junior has a great top-end speed but it does take him some time to get going when he’s guarding a receiver out wide. He was the gunner on the punt team and on the most important punt of the game he blew up the opposing punt return. The returner caught the ball and immediately got hit by Kaschinske and had a 0-yard return. However, his biggest game-changing moment was hit punt block which ended up getting returned for a touchdown. He timed the snap perfectly and exploded off the ball. The blocking team didn’t stand a chance. He was making plays where it counted most and he directly changed the game.
Quincy English Jr – Southside – QB – 6’5″ 187 lbs
English got the start at QB and he sure showed up to play. He was accurate and making decent throws but it was his legs that helped him stand out on Friday. He took a read-option early in the game, pulled the ball, and split a few defenders while somehow almost falling down but staying up and shooting through the hole for a touchdown. It was a great play and he deserved all the credit for it. As a passer, he’s raw and needs a ton of work. If he keeps making plays and developing as a QB, he could land some offers to play in college. If not at QB, it will be somewhere else. He’s 6’5″ and can catch the ball. That’s not a frame that comes around very often.
Jaylen Lattimore Jaylen Lattimore 6'3" | 220 lbs | LB South Side | 2022 State IN – Southside – DE/OLB – 6’3″ 220 lbs
Lattimore was all over the field Friday making plays. You could really tell he spent the summer in the weight room and it showed. He had 7.5 tackles and then 1 sack. He was flying around and making plays where could. They also used him some on offense to try switching things up as a change of pace back. He’s an athlete and it showed Friday. If he can continue to string together some good weeks, with that frame and raw athleticism someone will offer him a scholarship.
