San Diego OL Preview

<em>Wrapping up the offensive positional previews for San Diego with a break down of some notable players doing the dirty work in the trenches this season. </em> <span style="font-weight: 400;">[player_tooltip player_id="186969" first="Jagger" last="Filippone"]- <strong>Torrey Pines, 2022</strong></span> <span style="font-weight: 400;">Filippone will be the anchor for the Torrey Pines OL unit and one of the top players at the position in San Diego this season. Filippone showed versatility during the spring playing both LT and RT. He’s a long athlete at 6’6 265 lbs., moves his feet extremely well, and makes good use of his long reach. He excels at getting out in front of ball-carriers picking up blocks and clearing lanes at the second-level. He mostly lined up at C and RT in the spring showing good understanding of blocking assignments and techniques at both positions. He demonstrates solid footwork especially with his kick-step in pass protection and has the lower body strength to move defenders off the ball. It will be interesting to see how Oceanside utilizes Zimmerman this season as I could see him slotting in at C or OG at the next level. The junior has great size at 6’4 265 lbs., and will certainly add more weight and strength to his frame. He’s extremely physical at the point of attack and drives his powerful lower body through blocks. He’s a player that will be difficult for most DL units to match up with physically. He put his physicality on display during the spring season, consistently overpowering defenders and clearing lanes for star RB [player_tooltip player_id="141906" first="Lucky" last="Sutton"]. He also proved capable of sustaining blocks in pass pro with improved footwork and technique. He spent most of his time at OT last season but projects as an OG at the college level. He and teammate [player_tooltip player_id="187319" first="Rambo" last="Mageo"] will be matchup nightmares for any DL unit Cathedral faces this season.</span> <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/11435623/608380ada018ca1df4b254a5">Highlights </a> <span style="font-weight: 400;">[player_tooltip player_id="25440" first="Misael" last="Sandoval"]- <strong>St. Augustine, 2023</strong></span> <span style="font-weight: 400;">Sandoval is only a junior but at 6’6 320 lbs., already possesses the size and build of a D-1 lineman. The anchor of St. Augustine’s OL unit will provide versatility as he spent time at both RT and LT in the spring. Last season he showed explosiveness off the ball and the power to sustain and finish blocks.
