We updated our 22' Rankings adding new athletes, re-organizing the rankings based on player's summer camp circuit performances, and updated offers. Here are 18 stock risers that have made a jump from the previous rankings. Without further ado, let's dive into it.
[player_tooltip player_id="119207" first="Khary" last="Shaw"] ATH Brother Rice Twitter Highlights Prev Rank: Watch List New Rank: 36 Mr. Shaw is from Brother Rice, this past spring season he played most of his snaps on the offensive side of the ball through the slot. He's quick off the line of scrimmage where he's able to stack the defender to break him off at the top of the route and ran jet sweeps where he would read his blocks before bursting past the line of scrimmage with his 4.58 40 speed. This young man currently holds three offers from Eastern Michigan University, The University of Toledo, and The University of Tennessee-Martin. [player_tooltip player_id="20885" first="Toriano" last="Tate"] WR Dekalb Twitter Highlights Prev Rank: 53 New Rank: 39 Mr. Tate is from Dekalb, he's a sight to see to say the least as he has 7 offers on the table already. He's utilized in many areas on the offensive side of the ball lining up in the slot, at outside wideout, and even in the backfield being used as a lead blocker. What I like most about this young man is his ability to go up for the 50/50 balls and come down with them by making a contested catch over the defender. He runs a 4.55 40 yard dash as well, his stock rose from the spring season performance and I expect it to continue to do so after his fall season performance is all said and done. [player_tooltip player_id="65846" first="Jalen" last="Johnson"] WR Metea Valley Twitter Highlights Prev Rank: 225 New Rank: 40 Mr. Johnson is from Metea Valley, he's committed to play for Northern Illinois University once his high school career is over and there's no doubt as to why that is. He's quick off the line of scrimmage which he uses to get a step on the defender. Once he gets that step he can do a variety of moves such as breaking the defender off at the top of the route, going up for a contested-catch, and making a quick back-shoulder catch. Once he secures the ball he plants his foot into the ground to turn upfield quickly, this is seen on screen plays as well as in his routes downfield. [player_tooltip player_id="65860" first="Mack" last="Indestad"] OL Lemont Twitter Highlights Prev Rank: 99 New Rank: 43 Mr. Indestad is from Lemont, he's committed to play at Eastern Michigan University once his high school career is over and if you watch his highlights you'll see why that is. He gets hands-on quickly which is seen in pass protection and in the run game, both of which he plays through the whistle pancaking the defender by keeping his feet driving. This young man also washes the defensive line down creating running lanes for his back and works up to the 2nd level. In pass protection, he stays square forcing the outside rush and keeps the pocket clean. [player_tooltip player_id="156766" first="Cody" last="Silzer"] DL Lockport Twitter Highlights Prev Rank: 61 New Rank: 44 Mr. Silzer is from Lockport, he's committed to play at Eastern Illinois University with his twin brother [player_tooltip player_id="156767" first="Cole" last="Silzer"]. He fills gaps in run support where he stuffs the running back at the line of scrimmage resulting in no gain on the play. During his pass rush, he slaps the offensive lineman's hands down to get pressure on the quarterback resulting in sacks as well as hurries. Expect a big senior season from this young man as he's apart of a deadly defensive line with [player_tooltip player_id="156767" first="Cole" last="Silzer"] and company. [player_tooltip player_id="118827" first="George" last="Litgen"] LB St Charles North Twitter Highlights Prev Rank: 145 New Rank: 45 Mr. Litgen is from St Charles North, he has a handful of offers with the most recent offer coming in from Butler University. What I like most about this young man is his closing speed which he utilizes in his attacking playstyle. Once the ball is snapped he gets off the ball quickly gaining a step on the offensive lineman. As he does so, he batts the lineman's hands down to get pressure on the quarterback resulting in sacks and in one instant forcing a fumble. Keep an eye on this young man this fall as his stock can continue to rise after the season is concluded. [player_tooltip player_id="20871" first="Josh" last="Dornink"] RB Batavia Twitter Highlights Prev Rank: 135 New Rank: 46 Mr. Dornink is from Batavia, he has interest from multiple programs on the next level with no offers yet on the table. What I like most about this young man is his explosiveness, he bursts through the line of scrimmage and blows by the 2nd level of defenders by changing gears quickly. He's a part of a deadly Batavia team that is looking to make a deep playoff run. With it being a full fall season giving this young man the opportunity to showcase his skillset further, look for offers to come rolling in after the season is concluded. [player_tooltip player_id="156767" first="Cole" last="Silzer"] DL Lockport Twitter Highlights Prev Rank: 65 New Rank: 47 Mr. Silzer is from Lockport, he's committed to play at Eastern Illinois University with his twin brother [player_tooltip player_id="156766" first="Cody" last="Silzer"]. What I like most about this young man is how he's able to get pressure on the quarterback by being quick off the ball. This allows him to gain a step on the offensive lineman, once this happens he uses his hands at the point of attack to knock the lineman's hands down to get past him. He also fills gaps in run support meeting the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage resulting in no gain on the play. [player_tooltip player_id="20925" first="Bryan" last="McCoy"] LB Joliet West Twitter Highlights Prev Rank: 150 New Rank: 46 Mr. McCoy is from Joliet West, he holds a handful of offers with the most recent coming from The University of Northern Iowa. What I like most about this young man is his aggressive playstyle which he uses to attack the ball carrier. Once the ball is snapped he pops his hips and utilizes his closing speed to fill holes in run support making the tackle at the line of scrimmage as well as in the backfield for a loss on the play. He also isn't afraid to lay the boom with his heavy-hitting ability where he forced a fumble in the endzone to save a touchdown. [player_tooltip player_id="20909" first="Nasim" last="Cairo"] DL Edwardsville Twitter Highlights Prev Rank: 86 New Rank: 48 Mr. Cairo is from Edwardsville, he has a handful of offers with the most recent coming from Indiana State University. What I like most about this young man is his use of hands at the point of attack which he uses to bat down the offensive lineman's hands resulting in getting in the backfield quickly to make the play. This includes getting tackles for loss as well as getting pressure/sacks on the quarterback. He also doesn't give up on plays by taking pursuit angles to make the tackle downfield. [player_tooltip player_id="135690" first="Ryan" last="Calcagno"] DB St Francis Twitter Highlights Prev Rank: 169 New Rank: 50 Mr. Calcagno is from St Francis, he has a handful of offers with the most recent coming from Minessota State University as well as three D1 offers on the table. What I like most about this young man is how he's able to go up for the 50/50 balls and comes down with the interception by high pointing the ball. He also uses his closing speed to cover sideline to sideline and attack downhill to make the tackle at the line of scrimmage for no gain by covering ground quickly. [player_tooltip player_id="139445" first="Drew" last="Bartels"] LB Batavia Twitter Highlights Prev Rank: 193 New Rank: 53 Mr. Bartels is from Batavia, he currently holds a few offers with the most recent coming from Ball State University. What I like most about this young man is how quickly he diagnoses the play after taking his read step, once he does he attacks. If it's a pass play, he gets to his pass coverage drops quickly undercutting the route resulting in interceptions and if it's a run play he fills holes in run support meeting the ball carrier at the line of scrimmage for no gain. Expect a big fall season for this young man as Batavia pushes for a deep playoff run. [player_tooltip player_id="20883" first="Jalil" last="Martin"] WR Kenwood Academy Twitter Highlights Prev Rank: 207 New Rank: 57 Mr. Martin is from Kenwood Academy, he has a handful of offers with his most recent coming from The University of Kansas and The University of Nebraska. This young man is quick off the line of scrimmage where he gains a step on the defender when running fly routes burning them deep. What I like most about this young man is how he goes up for the 50/50 balls and comes down with the ball by making contested catches over the defender. He also isn't afraid to block in the run game where he pancakes the defender. [player_tooltip player_id="155266" first="Jack" last="McGarry"] OL Hinsdale Central Twitter Highlights Prev Rank: 102 New Rank: 58 Mr. McGarry is from Hinsdale Central, he has a few offers with his most recent coming from Butler University. What I like most about this young man is how he fires off the ball getting hands-on quickly. This is seen when he works up to the 2nd level blocks, washing the defensive lineman down, and in pass protection all resulting in this young man pancaking the defender. In pass protection, he stays square forcing the outside pass rush and keeps the pocket clean for his quarterback as seen in his highlight tape. [player_tooltip player_id="74206" first="DeMarcus" last="Funchess"] DB Carbondale Twitter Highlights Prev Rank: 147 New Rank: 59 Mr. Funchess is from Carbondale, he currently holds an offer from Missouri Southers State University. This young man stays with his man in coverage and isn't afraid to go up for 50/50 balls where he high points the ball to come down with the interception. Once he diagnoses the play, he opens his hips to cover sideline to sideline resulting in him coming down with interceptions either by closing ground to get the interception or by undercutting the route to come away with the turnover. [player_tooltip player_id="145916" first="Kelton" last="McCaslin"] DL St Charles East Twitter Highlights Prev Rank: 125 New Rank: 61 Mr. McCaslin is from St Charles East, he's headed to North Dakota State University after his high school career is completed as he committed to play there on July 1st, 2021. This young man is quick off the ball where he bats hands down at the point of attack getting past the offensive lineman resulting in getting pressure on the quarterback. As he does so, this results in quarterback hurries forcing the opposing quarterback to make errant throws and getting sacks for a loss on the play as well. [player_tooltip player_id="20929" first="Cameron" last="Grays"] DB Oswego Twitter Prev Rank: 216 New Rank: 62 Mr. Grays is from Oswego, he has a handful of offers with his most recent coming from Illinois State University. This young man stays with his man in coverage by staying in the receiver's hip pocket putting him in a position to get his hand in there to break up the pass on the play. Once he diagnoses the play as a run, he plants his back foot into the ground to attack downhill gaining ground quickly to make the tackle at the line of scrimmage resulting in no gain on the play. [player_tooltip player_id="139438" first="Logan" last="Bartley"] DL Paris Twitter Highlights Prev Rank: 214 New Rank: 64 Mr. Bartley is from Paris, he's committed to Indiana State University to continue his athletic and academic career. This young man wins at the point of attack where he's able to get off the block to make the take at the line of scrimmage resulting in filling gaps in run support. This also translates to his pass rush where he's able to get pressure on the quarterback forcing the quarterback to make errant throws/throws under pressure.
These are some of the young men that are Stock Risers in this 22' Rankings update. They are all names to keep an eye on as they have the skillset to play at the next level and it will be fun to see how they produce with a full season under their belts. Be sure to follow @jamaskane regarding news & information for Illinois High School Football, @PrepRedzoneIL, and @PrepRedzone.
