The 2020 season was a difficult one for the Harmony Grove Haskell Cardinals. Player depth was a concern a season ago with several players playing on both sides of the ball. The Cardinals went winless a season ago but have the potential to be a much-improved team this season. The Cardinals are determined to improve this season and make steps in the right direction. On the offensive side of the ball, the Cardinals lean heavily on the rushing attack. Harmony Grove Haskell quarterback Hunter Williams sets the tone at the quarterback position. Williams makes good decisions with the football and is a patient runner. He picks his rushing lanes well and it is not afraid to attempt to run someone over. Fans can expect to see Williams continue to run the football well, but also have more confidence in throwing the football. 2021 has the potential to be a solid year for the Cardinals quarterback. The ground game is the key facet of Cardinals offense, and it will need to be clicking on all cylinders this season. Coach Matt Guthrie has some talented options to choose from on who will see some carries this season. When Hunter Williams is not rushing the football from the quarterback position, Harmony Grove Haskell fans can look for fullback K.D. Newton and halfback Irvin Guerrero to some carries. Newton rushed for 800 yards last season and is looking to top the thousand-yard mark this season. Meanwhile from a receiving standpoint, fans can look for Troy Potter to see some passes thrown his way. Potter is a consistent route runner that does a great job of creating separation from the opposing defensive back. Tight end Peyton Russell is a steady target for Hunter Williams as well. Cardinal fans can look for an improved passing game this season. On the defensive side of the ball, Peyton Russell is expected to be a key player at the linebacker position this season. Russell uses his speed well and can be disruptive to the opponent’s rushing attack. Defensive end Luke Roush will be leaned on to create problems for the opposing offensive line with his mix of power and speed. The defense is going to be extremely quick and should pose problems for opposing offenses this season. <strong>2021 Prediction:</strong> After going winless last season, the key game in this year’s schedule is the first one against Jessieville. It will be important to get momentum going and playing well against Jessieville will help. Hunter Williams is going to be leaned on this year to run the ball well and make good decisions with the football. One other game to circle on the calendar will be the game against Bauxite. The Cardinals played the Miners well last season and the contest should be a close one this season.
