The start of the high school football season in the state of Arkansas is here. Prep RedZone Arkansas will preview key matchups that will take place Friday night. The first game we are going to preview is a battle in Northwest Arkansas between the Conway Wampus Cats and the Fayetteville Bulldogs. We will look briefly at both teams and give a few keys to the game for each team.
Starting off with the visiting Wampus Cats. Coach Keith Fimple will look to get [player_tooltip player_id="75084" first="Manny" last="Smith"] going at the receiver, running back, and quarterback positions. Smith did a little bit of everything for the Conway offense last season and will look to start the 2021 season off well against a talented Fayetteville defense. Morrilton transfer [player_tooltip player_id="134840" first="Javion" last="Ware"] has the talent to stretch the field and he has the potential to be a factor on both sides of the ball for the Wampus Cats. Conway is going to attempt to mix the run and the pass and keeping an eye on [player_tooltip player_id="162727" first="West" last="Boudreaux"] would be a great idea, the young man has excellent speed and can be a tough player to contain.
On the defensive side of the ball, Conway is faced with the task of trying to disrupt a talented Fayetteville offense led by quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="75105" first="Bladen" last="Fike"]. The Conway secondary is going to lean heavily on defensive back [player_tooltip player_id="92760" first="Troy" last="Wiseman"] and Jalen Wilson in the secondary. Both Wiseman and Wilson have the speed to contend with the Fayetteville receiving corps. Attempting to contain Fayetteville wide receive [player_tooltip player_id="75066" first="Isaiah" last="Sategna"] will not be easy. Containing quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="75105" first="Bladen" last="Fike"] will prove difficult because of the number of targets in the receiving corps that he has.
Meanwhile, on the Fayetteville Bulldogs side of things. The Bulldogs offense has a number of weapons that the Wampus Cats defense will have to contain to win this game. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="75105" first="Bladen" last="Fike"] is a quarterback that has tremendous accuracy and can throw into extremely small windows. [player_tooltip player_id="163766" first="Hayes" last="Robinson"], [player_tooltip player_id="75066" first="Isaiah" last="Sategna"], and [player_tooltip player_id="94925" first="Jalen" last="Blackburn"] are all three wide receivers that have the potential to have big seasons for the Bulldogs. The offense has plenty of quick strike capability in the passing and the run game with [player_tooltip player_id="183595" first="Omar" last="Murray"] getting a chance to carry the load for the Bulldogs at the tailback spot.
Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the ball, the Purple Dogs have plenty of talent as well. Fayetteville has three talented linebackers in the forms of [player_tooltip player_id="75075" first="Kaiden" last="Turner"], [player_tooltip player_id="120372" first="Cade" last="Fields"], and [player_tooltip player_id="181538" first="Mani" last="Powell"]. All three are extremely talented and all three have a nose for the football. In the secondary, [player_tooltip player_id="143705" first="Braelon" last="Palmer"] is a safety that can light up the ball carrier when given the opportunity. [player_tooltip player_id="127245" first="Ryan" last="Maxwell"] at the cornerback position uses his hands extremely well to jam receivers at the line of scrimmage. Should Fayetteville get going on both sides of the ball this could be a difficult contest for the Wampus Cats.
