19 years and 319 games played (201 starts).
That is the NFL experience on the McArthur staff behind head coach Kevin Burnett, Bryant McFadden and Alex Barron. Not to mention, McFadden (McArthur alum) has two super bowl rings with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Talk about an opportunity for the kids to learn about football on and off the field each and every day.
The Mustangs kicked off the 2021 season with a 18-13 win over Blanche Ely. Next up is Boyd Anderson on the road this Friday.
Who caught my attention during practice and on tape?
Marcus Jackson - Running back/cornerback
2023 Marcus Jackson is a dynamic two-way player for the Mustangs. The 5-foot-8,155-pound prospect looked quick in the backfield while getting to the outside. Jackson can definitely turn a corner and create a big play with his feet. He should be a weapon on offense and one of the leaders on the team.
Gerald Hernandez - Outside linebacker
The Mustangs have a horse on defense in Gerald Hernandez. The 6-foot, 220-pound linebacker is coming off a superb game against Blanche Ely with 11 tackles, 1 pass breakup and an interception. On offense, Hernandez rushed for 69 yards on six carries and added a score. He is terrific against the run and can cover as well. Hernandez is also great in the classroom with a 3.3 GPA. You want a kid with his talent and intuitiveness on the football field. Hernandez is going to create opportunities with his natural ability. Roosevelt Hadley - Wide receiver
I think Hadley is the type of kid you can lineup in multiple spots on offense. He scored last week off a direct snap from 10-15 yards out against the Tigers. Shout-out to his teammate that gave him a nice block on that play as Hadley split the defense for six. Get this kid in space. Hadley can take a swing pass or quick slant and turn it into big yardage. He is kind of a Swiss Army knife in terms of play calling.
Kyndre Stroman - Quarterback
I went back and watched 2022 Kyndre Stroman’s tape against Blanche Ely. I liked what I saw from him as a passer and runner. The 6-foot quarterback threw a nice completion along the sideline to 2023 Kymani Fleurme for a touchdown. The football was thrown over the top and hit his target in stride. By the way, Fleurme has some get up and attacks the football in the air. He looks like a nice deep threat for the Mustangs. I also saw Stroman use his feet to make plays. Specifically, he was able to create yards off a designed run or when a play broke down. There was one instance where he picked the football off the dirt and ran up the middle for about 15 yards. On another, Stroman avoided the rush and spun around before lobbing the football to an open receiver. Those are two potentially negative plays he turned into a positive.
Others To Watch:
2024 Aidan Karsh - Quarterback (6’2, 205)
2022 Matthew Young - Running back (5’8, 155) *Hudl Link*
