When you are competing against some 8A heavyweights in your own region, the last thing you need is head football coaching changes being made in such a short period of time, for one reason or another.
What head coach Greg Odierno represents is experience and the passion to get the Lions to that next level.
With years of coaching experience under his belt, Odierno understands that winning keeps players around – and the only way to achieve that type of success, year-round football is truly the only way to keep up with the other powers in central and north Florida.
This past off-season, the Lions have made that commitment during the spring and summer – and as the season rolls around – the objective is to once again make the playoffs, and that is where this program will build.
The senior class will be vital this season. Experience and potential leadership will come from this group that is led by receiver Alex Saunders (6-4, 185 – 3.3 GPA, 1140 SAT), who brings a balance of athletics and academics to this program.
In addition, rising tight end Anthony Davis (6-3, 225 – 2.7 GPA, 1110 SAT), quarterback Chase Copper (6-2, 170 – 2.7 GPA, 1100 SAT), Sam Reed (OC, 6-0, 245 – 3.6 GPA, 1230 SAT) and versatile defensive back Jarius Curry (5-9, 175 – 3.7 GPA, 1200 SAT) will give the Lions a lift.
UNDERCLASS IS THE FUTURE
As this team matures and grows, it will be the underclassmen that will have a say in 2021. Class of 2023 standouts such as Omari Muhammad-Wyatt (LB/RB, 6-1, 215), D.J. Scott (RB, 6-0, 195 – 2.8 GPA) and offensive lineman Ethan Manning (6-3, 240 – 4.0 GPA) are all solid.
So are linebacker Owen Proth (6-0, 200 – 3.7 GPA) – and safeties Noel Keller (5-11, 185 – 3.0 GPA) and Owen Aycock (5-11, 175 – 3.0 GPA).
Even the Class of 2024 sophomores are going to be special – with Tye Hyton (OL, 6-4, 245 – 3.6 GPA), Marquet Williams (WR, 5-8, 165 – 2.6 GPA) and Bryson Ford (OL, 6-5, 330 – 2.9 GPA).
