PRZ New Jersey will be adding more 2024 prospects to our database and rankings at the mid-point of the upcoming season. For now, we take a detailed look at the No. 1 Class of 2024 football recruit in New Jersey.
THE TOP DOG: Fatim Diggs Fatim Diggs 6'3" | 225 lbs | ATH Woodrow Wilson | 2024 State NJ | 6-3 | 225 | DL | WOODROW WILSON
Diggs doesn’t have the most amount of offers in New Jersey’s 2024 class. He currently has offers from Ole Miss, Virginia, and West Virginia. However, what Diggs does have is the most impressive highlights from the 2020 season out of all the film I watched on 2024 prospects. His talent provided a strong argument for him to be designated an athlete. Diggs plays both tight end and defensive end and showed dominance at times at each position last season. Simple put, Diggs is just a football player. With that being the case, there are some things that have made him stand out early in his high school football career.
The fact that Diggs was a key contributor on one of the top high school football teams in New Jersey last season says a lot. Offensively, he’s been designated as a tight end. However, when you watch his highlights, he’s more of a wide receiver/tight end hybrid. He’s a mismatch at the tight end position because he’s usually bigger than any safeties covering him and linebackers can’t match up with him. Diggs is a mismatch when he lines up at wide receiver because there are no 6-3 cornerbacks out there covering him. He legitimately commands a double-team in the passing game. There are a few plays on his highlights that show Diggs making catches for touchdowns deep downfield. I could not find his exact offensive stats but he caught a good number of touchdown passes that included a lot of yards after the catch.
Defensively, Diggs has the potential to be one of the best on the East Coast. It’s almost unfair for anybody that has to block Diggs coming off the edge against both the run and pass. It’s not hard to fathom why most recruiting analysts think that he’ll end up on the defensive side of the football at the next level. Diggs has the talent to make a tremendous impact for his team as an edge. He’s explosive, an instinctive pass rusher, agile, and has that quick-twitch eruption when he comes out of his stance. As of right now, Diggs gets the honor of No. 1 because he has been the most impressive 2024 prospect on the football field.
