There are only 10 quarterbacks in the Class of 2023 rankings and 32 quarterbacks overall including the watch list. Today we are taking a look at the top five, including two who have committed to Division I schools. (NOTE: For more information on each of the prospects, including links to HUDL highlights, please click on the player’s names to check out their prospect pages.)
1. [player_tooltip player_id="172248" first="Sam" last="Van Dyne"], Liberty North
The No. 21 overall prospect in the updated Missouri 2023 rankings, Van Dyne is a 6-foot-3, 205-pounder with a strong left arm. He has received a lot of attention this offseason and will get an opportunity this fall to show if he was deserving of it. Van Dyne is on the radar of colleges like Missouri and Louisville, but has yet to receive his first offer. A strong junior season this fall should attract several.
2. [player_tooltip player_id="37660" first="Christian" last="Cotton"], De Smet
A 5-11, 179-pounder ranked as the No. 36 overall prospect in the updated 2023 rankings, Cotton (pictured above) transferred to St. Mary’s after Trinity closed at the end of the 2020-21 school year but has since transferred to De Smet. He established himself as a player to watch as a freshman at Trinity when he threw for 1,655 yards and 16 touchdowns with nine interceptions. As a sophomore, he completed 71.4% of his passes for 730 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions, and ran for 317 yards and four scores in just five games. He is an undersized quarterback but has a strong arm and will have a lot of weapons to work with at De Smet.
3. [player_tooltip player_id="101691" first="Dylan" last="Hair"], Blair Oaks
The No. 39 prospect in the updated Missouri 2023 rankings, Hair is a 6-0, 180-pounder who led Blair Oaks to the Missouri Class 3 championship as a sophomore a year ago. In the title game, Hair rushed for 241 yards and six touchdowns and threw for 227 yards and a touchdown. For the season, he threw for 3,091 yards and 43 touchdowns against eight interceptions and ran for 1,303 and 25 yards. He’s an electric player and without a doubt one of the top quarterbacks to pay attention to this season.
4. [player_tooltip player_id="179109" first="Andrew" last="Hedgecorth"], Smithville
Hedgecorth, the No. 48 overall prospect in the updated 2023 rankings, put up some of the best numbers of any quarterback in the state a year ago. The 5-10, 160-pounder completed 67.8% of his passes for 2,306 yards with 25 touchdowns and six interceptions while leading Smithville to the state semifinals. He is also a baseball player and a wrestler, so you know he’s a kid who will compete.
5. [player_tooltip player_id="101689" first="Chase" last="Fallert"], Valle Catholic
A 5-8, 160-pounder, Fallert led Valle Catholic to nine straight wins to start the 2020 season before a playoff loss against St. Mary's. He is ranked as the No. 58 overall prospect in the updated 2023 rankings. Also a baseball and basketball player, Fallert is an undersized quarterback but is a leader who can deliver the ball to his skill position guys all over the field so they can make plays.
Next five:
[player_tooltip player_id="37718" first="Charos" last="Sutton"], Troy Buchanan
[player_tooltip player_id="119086" first="Bryant" last="Bull"], Marshfield
[player_tooltip player_id="181613" first="Greg" last="Menne"], Fort Osage
[player_tooltip player_id="177909" first="Zander" last="Dombrowski"], Raymore-Peculiar
[player_tooltip player_id="177888" first="Kendrick" last="Bell"], Park Hill
