There are 16 quarterbacks in the Class of 2022 rankings and 35 quarterbacks overall including the watch list. Today we are taking a look at the top five, including two who have committed to Division I schools. 1. [player_tooltip player_id="171825" first="Tre" last="Baker"], Lee’s Summit North (Abilene Christian)
The No. 43 player in the 2022 rankings, Baker jumped at the opportunity to play his college football for Abilene Christian in Texas. Baker isn’t the biggest quarterback at 6-foot and 190 pounds, nor the most athletic, but his junior season highlights show a passer with great touch who can deliver the ball where his receivers can make plays. With Lee’s Summit North having a strong group of skill position players this season, Baker should put up some impressive numbers.
2. [player_tooltip player_id="37531" first="Brian" last="Brown"], Lutheran North (Southern Illinois)
Brown, ranked 46th in the Class of 2022, put up big numbers as a sophomore when he led Lutheran North to a state championship and is 20-1 as the Crusaders’ starting quarterback. The 6-1, 180-pounder has plenty of talent around him again this fall and his new head coach, Kyle Wagner, was the team’s offensive coordinator during Brown’s state championship-winning sophomore season. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Southern Illinois commitment lead the St. Louis area in passing yardage and touchdowns this season.
3. [player_tooltip player_id="37608" first="Patrick" last="Heitert"], CBC
Heitert, ranked No. 61 in the 2022 rankings, enters his senior season as CBC’s starting quarterback after serving as the back-up quarterback and playing tight end for much of the previous two seasons. A dual-threat quarterback who excels in the pocket, Heitert put up big numbers during his junior season when he became the starter and should again this fall with a strong group of skilled position players surrounding him. Heitert has received a few small college scholarship offers so far, along with interest from several Ivy League schools, but could break out as a senior with more opportunities to show what he is capable of.
4. [player_tooltip player_id="37580" first="Cooper" last="Brown"], Holt
The No. 69 prospect in the updated 2022 rankings, Brown completed 68.5 percent of his passes for 2,057 yards and 32 touchdowns a year ago, which vaulted him near the top of the state charts (and rankings). Holt returns most of the talented position players who caught those passes as well, so the 6-3, 210-pounder should have another big season. Brown is a player who continues to get better and, with a few small college offers at this point, should impress more schools with another strong season this fall.
5. [player_tooltip player_id="37560" first="Caden" last="Burks"], Parkview
Burks, the No. 76 prospect in the 2022 rankings, is a 6-3, 215-pounder who may be the most athletic quarterback in Missouri’s talented 2022 class. He’s a dynamic playmaker who can beat teams with his arm or his legs and has the ability to make plays outside of the pocket after scrambling. Burks received his first Division I scholarship offer from Northern Iowa in late June and should attract plenty of attention this fall, especially with size and athletic ability that could translate into success at other positions.
Next five:
[player_tooltip player_id="96166" first="Dagen" last="Kenslow"], West Plains
[player_tooltip player_id="103093" first="Luke" last="Johnston"], St. Louis University High
[player_tooltip player_id="172435" first="Caron" last="Spann"], St. Mary’s
[player_tooltip player_id="96820" first="Trayvon" last="Thomas"], Hayti
[player_tooltip player_id="96125" first="Brockton" last="McLaughlin"], Osage
