In their region, they finished with a 7-0 record, and managed to accumulate a 14-0 record before taking their first loss in the first round of the playoffs to Irwin County. Against Irwin County, the Tigers lost 44-10, but showed that their talent is great enough to take them to the sem-final game. Next season, as many Tiger fans also hope, Metter’s Tigers will be fighting for another chance at a deep playoff run. In order to do so, they will rely on some of their returning stars that we have listed below.
Antwan Coney Antwan Coney 5'10" | 225 lbs | RB Metter | 2023 State GA – RB
While Coney does not currently hold any offers, we would be shocked if this did not change soon due to his ability to tote the rock with confidence, and power. When running the football, he proves to have a good jump cut, and feet quick enough to help him make adjustments at the line of scrimmage. He runs with good power behind his pads as well, as he also plays with good leverage, and can lower his shoulder against defenders. With this, Coney is also a very fun prospect to watch due to the way he is able to turn the corner, and make plays with his straight line speed. Additionally, Coney is also good at catching the ball out of the back field, which certainly helps him to be able to catch defenses off balance.
CJ Donaldson- DL
Off of the edge, Donaldson is a huge threat to opposing defenses, as he is able to use his power, strength, and length to his ability to make big plays against opposing offenses. Not only does he get off of the ball quickly, but he uses his quickness to work around the edge, and his hands and arms to beat defenders effortlessly. To add to this, Donaldson also wraps up well, and has the ability to move with fluidity that you would ideally like to see out of a player his age. This allows him to change direction well, and to be able to make plays in the backfield, and in pursuit. Next season, look for Donaldson to continue to grow into his frame, and to be the dominant force for his defense that his team expects him to be.
Danny Cheley- DB
One of the things that stands out the most about Cheley is his ball skills, and the way that he positions himself well. In doing so, he is able to cause turnovers, or even pass break ups. With this, he plays with great speed, and burst. Whether it is making tackles, or making plays with the ball in his hands, he does a good job of finishing plays. When playing at DB, he shows that he is good at taking tackling angles and that he wraps up well. To add to this, he plays with decent bend, and has a solid crossover run. Even though he is a bit stiff when flipping his hips, we believe that he has decent feet, which is a good pairing with his explosive ability out of his breaks. When he is used on offense at RB, he shows off his twitch, burst, and vision of the field. This can also be seen when he returns the ball, and takes good running lanes, resulting in big gains and positive yardage. Next season, look for him to be a big part of his team’s overall success, helping them to reach the playoffs as they set out to do.
Kaliq Jordan- LB
When watching Jordan’s tape, it is evident that even though he is a bit of a raw prospect, he plays well in pursuit, and has a good motor when playing the LB position. He makes plays in the box, and is willing to do whatever it takes to make plays. With this, he also bends well and attacks the ball carrier well in the box. When making tackles, he plays with good leverage and he drives his feet and legs through contact, making it easier to finish through to the ground. In addition to this, Jordan also plays with good balance, and an awareness of the game that coaches love to see out of a player his size, frame, and caliber.
