St. Mary’s-Lutheran North: Game Recap & Players of the Game

The St. Mary's Dragons blew past visiting Lutheran North 44-7 on Friday night.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span> The loaded team was able to unleash a new weapon they’ve been holding off since 2019. Although both teams didn’t have their starting quarterbacks, the players that stepped up showed out. <strong><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-192577" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/redzone/uploads/2021/08/IMG_5755.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="200" />RB [player_tooltip player_id="173066" first="Jamal" last="Roberts"] St. Mary’s c/o 23.</strong> Roberts is a freak of nature. Due to not playing last season, he was able to make up for it. Roberts ran through North’s defense, having eight carries for 173 yards. The 6-foot-2 194-pound power back was hard to take down and was too fast to catch. He showed why he was one of the top athletes in the state. Sommerville rushed for 34 yards and scored for the Crusaders late in the fourth quarter. He will be another player to watch for the Crusaders during the rest of the season. <strong>RB [player_tooltip player_id="171824" first="Jaylin" last="Carson"] Lutheran North c/o 22.</strong> Carson did what he could for the Crusaders. Carson led the offense, rushing for 144 yards on 20 carries.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span> <strong>DL Gabe Booker St. Mary’s c/o 23.</strong> Booker and the Dragons’ defense trampled through North all night. He played aggressive off the line and never let up. Booker gave the Dragons’ defense more momentum when he recovered a fumble from the Crusaders and ran it back for a touchdown.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span>
