Continue ReadingOn Saturday, the University of Colorado held a Junior Day visit with some of the top prospects in the state to give them an early look at possibly playing for the Buffs.
Based on social media posts, we were able to count 11 local prospects that paid a visit over the weekend in Boulder.
Leading the group for the Class of 2023 was Cherry Creek defensive lineman Hank Zilinskas Hank Zilinskas 6'3" | 255 lbs | OL Cherry Creek | 2023 State CO , the No. 2 ranked defensive lineman in his class and No. 13 overall prospect from the state. He recently grabbed an offer from Colorado State before taking the visit. He recorded 22 total tackles and was part of a deep and talented defensive group that led Cherry Creek to the Class 5A state title last spring.
Two more recruits currently ranked in the top 50 for their class by Prep Redzone Colorado that were in attendance were Joseph Capra Joseph Capra 6'1" | 165 lbs | QB Denver South | 2023 State CO and Nathaniel Robinson Nathaniel Robinson 5'9" | 185 lbs | RB Palmer Ridge | 2023 State CO . Capra, a quarterback for Denver South, visited after seeing time under center in the spring 2021 season, making him the No. 42 ranked prospect and No. 8 ranked quarterback in the preseason rankings. He showed excellent accuracy and decision making throwing the football with his 75 percent completion percentage and not throwing an interception. As for Robinson, he is a running back for a talented Palmer Ridge team and shows plenty of promise. He rushed for 420 yards and three touchdowns last season. Right now, he is ranked No. 47 overall and the No. 6 for running backs in his class.
The Class of 2022 was also in attendance, and leading them for the visit in Boulder was Jackson Adams Jackson Adams 6'4" | 230 lbs | DL Arapahoe | 2022 State CO of Arapahoe. The summer started nicely for Adams, who was named the MVP for defensive linemen at the Showcase Football 60 camp. He also showcased his skills in camps at South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming. Also a talented basketball player, he is currently the No. 12 ranked prospect and No. 2 ranked linebacker in 2022 according to preseason rankings by Prep Redzone Colorado.
Another top prospect from the upcoming class in Boulder was Antwuan Jackson Jr Antwuan Jackson Jr 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Douglas County | 2022 State CO of Douglas County. He is a quarterback who may get a look at playing different positions at the next level. From his quarterback position, he threw for 630 yards, rushed for 327 yards and had six total touchdowns, showing his athleticism in many different ways on the field. His first offer so far is from Western Colorado.
Plenty of others in the Class of 2022 and 2023 were a part of the visit and are hoping that a good fall season will help elevate them in our rankings and on the recruiting boards as well.
Jackson Gridley Jackson Gridley 6'0" | 225 lbs | LB Cherokee Trail | 2022 State CO , Cherokee Trail (No. 136 overall, No. 21 linebacker): A defensive player who can play either defensive end or linebacker, Gridley had 25 tackles in the 2020 season and should see even bigger numbers with more playing time this fall. He shared getting to work out at Colorado School of Mines earlier this summer.
Michael Comeau, Eaglecrest: An offensive lineman with a solid frame at 6-foot-3 and 255 pounds. He will play in the interior on the line, and he brings extra value with his long snapping ability for special teams. Comeau has competed at multiple camps this summer at Nebraska, Kansas State, SMU and Chadron State.
Mason Harris Mason Harris 6'3" | 215 lbs | LB Eaglecrest | 2022 State CO , Eaglecrest (No. 48 overall, No. 9 linebacker): Harris already has an offer from CSU-Pueblo at the NCAA Division II level following an impressive showing at their camp this summer. The edge rusher shows quick feet, a good first step, good hand fighting techniques and the ability to bend low in order to get around linemen from his defensive end spot. He also showed highlights from a camp at CU from earlier this summer.
Hayden Woodruff, Mullen: Solid size at 6-foot-4 and 290 pounds. He showed flashes of strong play at a camp at CSU-Pueblo from this summer at the tackle position, and he is a two-way player who can also contribute on the defensive line. He plays with a mean streak and is not afraid to drive a defender into the ground.
Tyler Cullen Tyler Cullen 6'2" | 225 lbs | LB Pueblo West | 2022 State CO , Pueblo West (No. 45 overall, No. 6 linebacker): You can see the motor that Cullen plays with in his highlight video. The linebacker goes all-out on every play and will pursuit the ball carrier the entire time until he is tackled. He had 15 tackles and three tackles for loss in 2020 for Pueblo West. In addition to his visit with CU, Cullen has participated in camps with CSU-Pueblo and Western Colorado in recent weeks.
Tanner Fleck Tanner Fleck 6'2" | 255 lbs | OL Douglas County | 2022 State CO , Douglas County (No. 156 overall, No. 13 offensive line): On the radar with smaller schools so far is Fleck. He recently got an offer from New Mexico Highlands University in July. At 6-foot-2 and 255 pounds, he is a left tackle who can get movement and create a hole for his backs in the run game and continues to improve as a steady pass protector. He has been busy with multiple camps from all levels of schools this summer before his visit in Boulder.
