Dante Culbreath’s Simeon Wolverines sadly had their spring season cut short due to covid-19 with only 3 games being played. In those 3 games, they won all of them, with a strong statement win over Kenwood Academy. With the win over Kenwood Academy, it’s fair to place the Wolverines along with the Morgan Park High school Mustangs at the top of the Chicago Public Illini (Red Bird) conference. With games against some of Illinois’ best high school football teams in other IHSA state classes such as Joliet Catholic Academy and Bolingbrook, it will be worth watching how some of the Wolverine’s younger varsity players respond. Players like Andrew Crews and [player_tooltip player_id="20843" first="Malik" last="Elzy"] who played their sophomore season up on varsity this spring are a couple of names that will be on the radar.

Impact Players:
Korey Flowers (QB-2022- 6’0” 165lb)
Korey is a quarterback who had a solid spring season. He has a good spin on the ball and good footwork fundamentals. One thing that he does really well is delivering the ball at the intermediate level. Within a 25 yard box, Korey is accurate and makes good decisions. Now that he’s a senior with a full camp season, I wouldn’t be surprised if the playbook is completely opened for him to show out this fall.
[player_tooltip player_id="20844" first="Andre" last="Crews"] (ATH-2023- 5’9” 175lb)
The scatback got some meaningful carries this spring for Simeon. Andre ran hard for over 300 yards and 6 touchdowns. All the while he would take snaps at corner as well. He’s ranked as the #1 RB for Prepredzone Illinois’s class of 2023. Being ranked #1 at anything warrants consideration of must watch!
[player_tooltip player_id="155393" first="Latrell" last="Scott"] (LB-2022- 6’1” 235lb)
Latrell has spent time as a linebacker on the varsity level. He has continued to get better year after year. Now he’s a senior and will be a voice/force on the defensive side of the ball for the wolverines. His impact will be felt by having the front 7 in position, stuffing the run, and utilizing his nose for the ball. Every week offenses will have to dial something up to confuse him or keep him from becoming a game wrecker.
Other Players on the Radar:

Games to Keep an eye on:
Games against Joliet Catholic Academy (JCA) on opening night (8/27) and Morgan Park High school (10/9) are two games that you definitely want to watch this fall. The opening night game will be played in Joliet. Both teams have a long history of winning, and they both had flawless spring seasons. With future D1 college players on both teams, it will be a great out of conference competition that will result in one team having their first loss since the fall of 2019...
The game against the Morgan Park Mustangs would be my other must watch game for Simeon. These are two teams that have a strong rivalry in the basketball world and now have the chance to battle it out on the gridiron this fall. Just like JCA, Morgan Park did not lose a game this spring. They also did not allow a point this spring to any team in the conference. Their game taking place towards the end of the season could be a game that determines who wins the conference!
