The entire Eastside defense deserves to be the first highlight here. They held strong all night and late in the game when it mattered most, they did not break. The old adage, bend and don’t break, was exactly was Eastside was able to do Friday. Adams Central scored a touchdown to tie the game very late. They had a goal-line stand to prevent Adams Central from scoring. The stand is what held them off for the win. A goalline stand to win the game? That’s what Friday night is all about!
Jaylen Williams – Northrop – SS/WR – 6’0″ 170 lbs
Williams was flying around and making plays on Friday. He helped Northrop force multiple turnovers and had one himself. Williams was able to read the QB’s eyes, jump the route, and layout for the interception. Williams has been able to lockdown the WR he’s faced in both weeks so far. The junior is already turning heads and making plays for Northrop. He’s going to land some offers if he keeps up this level of play.
Rashawn Boone – Northrop – CB – 6’1″ 175 lbs
Boone is a senior and one of the leaders for Northrop. He typically plays on the outside and handles the opposing team’s #1 WR and lock them down. Boone was able to layout for an interception late in the game which helped seal the game. Northrop had multiple interceptions and both were late and were key to help get the ball back and get them back into the game. Boone is very long and physical at the point of attack. The senior currently has no offers and would like to change that by the end of the year.
Da’Von Doughty Da’Von Doughty 5'10" | 205 lbs | LB North Side | 2023 State IN – Bishop Luers – MLB – 5’10″ 205 lbs
Doughty was lining up all over the field on Friday. He made the biggest impact rushing the passer. He was alright when they lined up him at LB, but he made his biggest play lining up at the interior defensive line spot. Doughty pushed right up the middle on a key 3rd down and was able to bull rush right into the quarterback for a sack. The sack led to a punt, which led to a score for Bishop Luers. That score changed the momentum of the game and Bishop Luers pulled away afterward.
Josh Arntz – Columbia City – MLB – 5’8″ 180 lbs
Arntz was all over the field on Friday. He had almost a dozen tackles and some big plays. His biggest play was a forced fumble right around the 50-yard line. He forced the fumble and was able to dive on it and pick it up. That play stalled a Delta drive that sure looked like was going to lead to some points. The game in Delta Friday night was a defensive fight and Artz’s play was an example of that. Columbia City later fell 14-10.
