Overview
We have a shortlist of teams in each class that weren’t ranked in our preseason rankings but were right on the border of being in the top ten. For Class 2A, the Eufaula Ironheads are near the top of the list. After going 9-3 last season and losing in a heartbreaker to Oklahoma Christian in the quarterfinals, we have a feeling that the Ironheads won’t take very long before being involved in the Class 2A top ten. They’ve been one of the more consistent teams that hasn’t truly contended for a championship in the last few years. They’ve made two quarterfinal appearances in the last three years but are still looking for that first semifinal since 2005. With six starters coming back on offense and another six on defense, the Ironheads have a roster that we really like on both sides of the ball. But specifically, their offense has the chance to be pretty special. The only question we have is at the running back position as they have to replace Noah Alexander Noah Alexander 5'9" | RB Eufaula | 2021 State OK , who signed with Army and has been a star in the Ironhead backfield. But we’re not too worried about that because Eufaula’s personnel this year might dictate that they throw the ball a little more. Another thing that certainly helps Eufaula is the district that they are in. The Ironheads are the heavy favorite to capture the district crown and it’s hard to debate that. In their six district games last year, (one game was cancelled) they beat their opponents by nearly 30 points per game. The closest district game was a 16-point victory over Atoka. We won’t be surprised at all if Eufaula and their high-powered offense has not only jumped into the top ten this fall, but becomes one of the top true championship contenders.

. We have him listed as a wide receiver but he’s going to be doing much more than that for Eufaula this fall. You’ll be able to see him on offense at receiver, in the secondary on defense and he’s going to be returning kicks and punts. Deere showed last year what he’s capable as he racked up double digit touchdowns. But we have a feeling he’ll be putting up monster numbers in the receiving category because of the 1-2 QB-WR connection we’ll be seeing.

. The Stigler transfer was lights out last season as a passer and also looks the part physically. We will throw out there that Adcock is an outstanding baseball player and his future might be on the diamond. But we firmly believe that he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the state’s 2023 class and has the talent to be a QB at the next level. And we expect that he’s only going to get better this fall.

2021 Schedule/Games To Watch
Sept. 3 – Vian
– The season opener will be fun as the Ironheads and the Wolverines will square off in week one. Eufaula will host after going on the road to Vian and getting smashed by 30 points a season ago. However, Eufaula has some firepower that is another year experienced and ready to put up some points on a Vian team that will need new players to step up. Vian came in at #10 in our preseason rankings and Eufaula was just on the outside looking in. A win here will put Eufaula at 1-0 and jump them into the top ten.
Sept. 17 – Checotah
– After having week two off, the Ironheads will be back at home, taking on Checotah in the final non-district game. Like Vian, Checotah will push Eufaula in an early season match-up to see just how talented this team is. Checotah comes in at #9 in our 3A preseason rankings and they have high hopes for this season. And just like with the Vian match-up, we’ll see a clashing of styles as Checotah and Vian both will want to run the ball while Eufaula will take advantage of their offensive weapons and air it out.
Sept. 24 – AT Hartshorne
Oct. 1 – AT Hugo
Oct. 8 – Atoka
– Eufaula is the heavy favorite in this district and because of that, they might not be tested as much during district play. We mentioned the scoring average for the Ironheads last year against their district opponents. The first two games of the year will be tough but then Eufaula might not be tested until the playoffs. The team that could give them the most trouble in district play is Atoka. They’ll get the Wampus Cats at home and Atoka has some players that will make running the table in district play a little more difficult.
Oct. 14 – AT Wilburton
Oct. 22 – Idabel
Oct. 29 – AT Valliant
Nov. 5 – Antlers
