Enzo Arjona Enzo Arjona 6'0" | QB Northern Highlands | 2022 State NJ , Northern Highlands, 6’ 180 lbs
A Monmouth University commit, Arjona is by far the most complete QB on this list. The improvement in his footwork from sophomore to junior season really stood out as he wasn’t afraid to sit in the pocket and go through his reads. He can throw the ball into tight coverage on a zip and extend plays out of the pocket (including his left, non-dominant side). Despite having his starts reduced by half due to COVID-19 from 2019 to 2020, I expect Arjona to take major step forward in his play this season and absolutely dominate the gridiron.
Andrew Medina, New Milford, 6’2 175 lbs
Medina’s presence on the field is always felt, whether he is at QB or playing S on the defensive side of the ball. Usually tall lanky QB’s get beat up pretty easily, but Medina is not afraid to punish defenders / ball carriers to make a play. Arm strength / accuracy on short & intermediate puts DB’s & LB’s in impossible situations to make plays. His play is reminiscent of Zack Wilson when he was at BYU. Medina’s athleticism will carry New Milford as the season progresses.
Charlie Amatrula, NVOT, 6’ 195 lbs
Despite being utilized as a ball carrier more than a passer, Amatrula was the the most accurate QB on this list for the 2020-21 season. Amatrula excels at the ability to minimize risky throws and make the proper reads needed to move the chains. He also isn’t afraid to challenge DB’s on contested throws. If Amatrula can elevate his passing game given more attempts, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him climb up the QB rankings.
John Lembo, Lyndhurst, 5’9 170 lbs
The most underrated QB on this list. Lembo’s size often makes him overlooked. However, Lembo took advantage of the weak strength of schedule (as any QB should) and curated the best statistical line out of all the QB’s on this list, including passing yards and touchdowns. His strengths include being able to stay calm in a broken-down pocket and creating plays when it seems that the plays over. His true test will come when Lyndhurst plays New Milford, led by Medina.
Dan Caiafa, Ridgewood, 6’ 155 lbs
Prototypical gunslinger, Caiafa loves to air it out on his opponents. His 21.8 yards per completion was more than five yards that of the second QB in this category (Arjona w/ 16.0 YPC). Caiafa also has sneaky athleticism as a ball carrier in a traditional Wing-T offense. If given the opportunity with more reps both as a passer and ball carrier, Caiafa has the potential to break out as a major threat to all secondary’s he faces.
