Enjoy! DEFENSIVE LINE [player_tooltip player_id="139763" first="Trevion" last="Williams"] | Crystal Springs The Florida State commit could’ve made this team as a linebacker, but Williams is a player that can play with his hand in the dirt or out. The freakish athlete also takes snaps at quarterback for Crystal Springs. Williams is a prototypical modern defensive lineman with tons of twitch and athleticism to him. Look for him to dominate 3A one last season and compete for early playing time in college. Jaylon Price | Thomas E. Edwards Although he had to sit out last year due to COVID-19, Price has the potential to be one of the best junior defensive linemen in Mississippi this season. He has rare speed of the edge and length to be incredibly disruptive to offensive tackles. As a freshman, this was a guy that stepped in and immediately flashed. Excited to watch him back this season. [player_tooltip player_id="131627" first="Ahmorrian" last="Ellis"] | Port Gibson At 6’3" 250, Ellis is a force to be reckoned with on the interior line. Ellis has a great get off the ball and is frequently in opponents backfields. Against the run, he thrives. Ellis gets off blocks well and sets the edge. As a pass rusher, Ellis has a great bull rush move that combines with his speed well. College level player who will be discovered soon. LINEBACKERS [player_tooltip player_id="104468" first="Collin" last="McGowan"] | Wesson A traditional MIKE style linebacker, McGowan brings a physical presence to any offense he plays against. This is a guy that had over 120 tackles last season and flies around to get to the football. McGowan also has the speed and quickness to drop back and play in shallow coverage. Lists no offers currently, but this senior season should change that. Chaunssey Triplett | Noxubee Triplett rotates between inside and outside linebacker and stands out at both. He has great strength to him and can easily get off of blocks. Against the run is where he shines. There isn’t a back in 3A that can get outside of him or make him miss in space. In the pass game, Triplett is a deadly blitzer off the edge or through the interior. Lists offers from East Mississippi, Coahoma, and Hinds among others. James Dexter Nanney | Booneville With 122 tackles last season, Nanney was one of 3A’s most exciting backers to watch last year. A traditional WILL backer, Nanney has the athleticism to play in shallow zones or as the quarterback spy. His instincts are what stand out most. Once he sees where the ball is going, he can quickly trigger and make a big time collision on the ball carrier. Lists offers from Northeast and ICC. [player_tooltip player_id="139772" first="Ja’Marlin" last="Green"] | Franklin County Doubling as a quarterback and outside linebacker, Green is one of the most interesting players in Mississippi. On the offensive side of the ball, his big arm and great athleticism make him one of the deadliest offensive weapons in the region. On defense, Green is a big physical backer who can absolutely crush ball carriers. He tackles well in the open field and can cover shallow zones as well. Lists offers from Indiana and South Alabama. DEFENSIVE BACKS [player_tooltip player_id="139770" first="Jordan" last="Anthony"] | Tylertown Although he is committed to Kentucky to play slot receiver, Anthony is one of 3A’s most athletic defensive backs as well. The two way standout has elite speed and change direction, allowing him to break on the ball before the receiver even sees that it is in the air. Anthony is also a dynamic return man and can score from anywhere. Special player who we are excited to watch this year. [player_tooltip player_id="139771" first="Malcolm" last="Hartzog"] | Jefferson Davis Hartzog is one of the best kept secrets in Mississippi. The long and athletic defensive back is a strong tackler at the corner position and plays coverage fluidly. Hartzog has good speed to him, but what stands out most is his ball skills. He knows how to use his length well to jar the ball out of a receivers hands and make plays on the ball in the air. Lists offers from Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Marshall, and Mississippi Gulf Coast. [player_tooltip player_id="107042" first="Chris" last="Davis"] | Wesson A junior on the defensive back list, Davis was extremely productive last year as a sophomore. Davis plays both receiver and defensive back and uses his great athleticism to shine on both sides. On defense, Davis closes on the ball quickly and has extremely high football IQ. He reads plays well and can bait quarterbacks into easy mistakes. Love his upside and excited to watch him dominate as a junior. [player_tooltip player_id="281322" first="Cameron" last="Haynes"] | Amory Haynes is another sleeper player in 3A. A two way starter, he had a tremendous season last year. Haynes plays cornerback for Amory and is put on an island. He plays well in man coverage and has great speed to break across the field with. Haynes also has impressive ball skills and can out jump anybody for the ball when it is in the air. Watch for this guy to have another big season and add college interest soon.
