With the release of the updated CA 2023 rankings, here’s an in-depth analysis of several new prospects making the list. [player_tooltip player_id="190274" first="Dijon" last="Stanley"], RB, Granada Hills Stanley is an exceptional athlete with explosive playmaking potential. A dual sport prospect with elite level track speed (won the LA City CIF Finals in the 200m, 400m, and 4x100 relay). He’s a threat to score every time he touches the ball with his top end speed, burst, and elusiveness in the open field. Great fluidity in his stride and his cuts, flashing outstanding start/stop quickness and acceleration out of his breaks. Good natural instincts as a ball carrier, shows he can read and anticipate his blocks effectively to create open running lanes. An exciting player to watch, he’s been offered by Colorado, Michigan, and San Jose State thus far but has the ability to be a double digit D1 offer prospect before long. [caption id="attachment_167032" align="alignleft" width="243"] Photo: Jose Carlos Fajardo Bay Area News Group[/caption] [player_tooltip player_id="190343" first="Jason" last="Steele"], OL, Murrieta Valley Good all-around skillset at 6’4” 275 lbs. with good growth potential in his frame to add weight. He’s a plus athlete using his good feet and mobility to be an effective blocker at the second level and on the perimeter. He’s a technician with his footwork, hands, and overall fundamentals. He’s a finisher at the POA driving his feet through contact with good balance and leverage to overpower opponents. Love his competitive nature in combination with his controlled aggressive style of play. Has the potential to add more offers as a junior after pulling in Colorado State, San Jose State, and UC Davis in the summer. [player_tooltip player_id="145271" first="Daniel" last="Andrade"], QB, Bonita As a junior, he already passes the college level eye test with his length and frame at 6’3” 200 lbs. Obvious natural arm talent with his strength, accuracy, and ability to throw off different platforms and from different angles. Strong throwing mechanics and footwork from the pocket, he’s quick to get into his drop and shows a quick, compact delivery. Shows good anticipation and timing with his ability to land and deliver on time and into tight windows. First year as a starter and still early in his career but displays good poise, awareness, and field vision under pressure. He’s a player to watch as he develops and already holds offers from San Jose State and Middle Tennessee State. [player_tooltip player_id="190345" first="Mike" last="Anderson"], WR, Jurupa Hills Outstanding athleticism and versatility with the ability to play slot, RB, or DB. Possesses a lethal combination of top end speed, lateral quickness, and change of direction. Projecting as a slot at the college level, he’s a sharp and precise route runner that is quick in/out of his breaks and shows great acceleration out to create separation. Does a great job setting up and selling his routes, excellent drive phase and understands how to attack the blind spot. He’s a natural pass catcher with good body control and coordination to make catches outside his framework. After the catch is where he excels and can do damage with his speed and elusiveness. First offered by Charlotte in June, his recruiting his starting to heat up with offers from North Texas and Minnesota earlier this month. [player_tooltip player_id="190346" first="Drew" last="Cowart"], QB, Oak Ridge [caption id="attachment_181474" align="alignright" width="252"] Photo: [player_tooltip player_id="190346" first="Drew" last="Cowart"] Twitter[/caption]Cowart showed promise as a sophomore starter in the spring season playing for one of the top teams in the Sacramento area. He’s a plus athlete with good pocket mobility and body control/coordination to throw on the run to either direction. Good accuracy and touch as a passer, love his ability to drop the ball in deep with touch and layer the ball over second level defenders. He sees the field well, going through his progression making quick and decisive reads from the pocket. For a young QB, he shows a good ability to improvise and make a play when protection breaks down. Picked up his first offer at the beginning of the month from Middle Tennessee State but already is seeing attention from other D1 programs. [player_tooltip player_id="169765" first="Derek" last="Thompson"], OL, De La Salle As usual coming out of top west coast program De La Salle Thompson is an athletic and technical interior offensive lineman. At 6’2” 270 lbs. he possesses a well-balanced and mobile frame with good bend and natural flexibility in the hips, knees, and ankles. He’s quick coming out of his stance, firing off hard with a flat back and good leverage. He explodes at the POA accelerating his feet on contact with a powerful hip roll. Good lateral agility and quickness, shows he can mirror a defenders movement and sustain his block through the whistle. High football IQ, understands his assignment against different fronts and does a good job picking up blitzes/stunts. Nevada is his only offer up to this point but still very early in his recruitment.
