Here’s a look at 10 potential defensive stock risers in the 2023 class:
Dallas Afalava Dallas Afalava 6'3" | 250 lbs | DL Rainier Beach | 2023 State WA , DL, 6’5″ 250lbs, Rainier Beach: Afalava is a very smart and athletic kid along the DL for Rainier Beach. Excellent quickness off the LOS to win off the ball, and also possesses solid functional strength and power to overpower opponents. Explosive through the hips and strong at the POA, as Afalava holds division 1 ability and should see that first offer come in soon.
Noah Fasavalu Noah Fasavalu 6'1" | 185 lbs | DB Bethel | 2023 State WA , DB, 6’1″ 185lbs, Bethel: Fasavalu holds offers from Colorado and Florida Atlantic, but has the ability and potential to blow up in 2021 and see double digit offers in a hurry. Good frame and length at 6’1″ 185lbs with the ability and athleticism to play safety or corner. He closes well as a tackler with explosiveness, and is strong in both man and zone with good hand placement to force PBU’s.
Kyle Chen Kyle Chen 6'1" | 190 lbs | DB Mountain View | 2023 State WA , DB, 6’1″ 190lbs, Mountain View: Chen holds a Penn State offer as of now, but also should be a double digit offer kid within time. Excellent football IQ with the ability to read and diagnose plays. Relies on technique often and is a promising all-around athlete.
Taveonte Webster Taveonte Webster 6'4" | 210 lbs | ATH Wilson | 2023 State WA , ATH, 6’3″ 210lbs, Wilson: Schools will love Webster’s frame and length. He’s a two-way player with the ability to make a huge impact on both sides of the ball. He flashes good recovery speed as a DB with accurate punch to rack up those PBU’s. Good ball skills all around with promising potential.
Matai Sarte Matai Sarte 6'2" | 235 lbs | LB Lakes | 2023 State WA , LB, 6’2″ 235lbs, Fife: Sarte is a high motor kid that flies around the field as he possesses excellent instincts and range. Strong and explosive at the POA and has flashed a violent striking ability. He does a great job diagnosing plays and shedding blocks to put himself in position to blow up plays. Definitely deserving of that first offer.
Kolani Masunu Kolani Masunu 6'0" | 275 lbs | DL Bellevue | 2023 State WA , DL, 5’11″ 270lbs, Bellevue: Masunu is a promising DL prospect that is strong at the POA with the ability to get underneath opponents to gain excellent leverage. Solid short area quickness all-around with a nice burst off the LOS and has shown good lateral mobility. He projects to be a lethal pass rusher here in 2021, and is developing into a well-rounded threat along the DL.
Bam Afalava Bam Afalava 6'2" | 230 lbs | LB Emerald Ridge | 2023 State WA , LB, 6’3″ 235lbs, Rogers: Afalava is a very athletic kid and is a DE/OLB type of player for Rogers. He sizes up with a solid frame and build with good length. He flashes good functional strength and violent hands to finesse his way into the backfield. Good pursuit to make plays down the field and could have a monster season this fall. He will most likely end up along the DL at the next level, and holds numerous intangibles going forward.
Jaylon Jenkins Jaylon Jenkins 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB Federal Way | 2023 State WA , DB, 6’1″ 180lbs, Federal Way: Jenkins is a talented all-around athlete with fluid hips and solid flexibility. He breaks on the ball well with a nice burst and possesses excellent speed. Good route recognition with big potential as we creep closer to the season.
Ray Wright Ray Wright 5'10" | 200 lbs | LB Yelm | 2023 State WA , LB, 5’10″ 200lbs, Yelm: Wright is still developing, but has flashed big potential to take a major leap from his sophomore to junior season. Good play rec with solid instincts and range and has shown strength at the POA. Strong kid as he translates the wight room to the field well, and could have a big junior season to draw that attention.
Ishaan Daniels Ishaan Daniels 5'11" | 160 lbs | ATH Bellevue | 2023 State WA , ATH, 5’11″ 160lbs, Bellevue: Daniels sizes up with a slender build with room to add weight, but possesses solid speed, quickness, athleticism, and glimpses of twitch. He’s a two-way standout for Bellevue and projects to have a big role during his junior campaign, giving him potential to see a spark in his stock if he can take that leap.
