In 2020, Scottsdale Christian was the definition of a powerhouse in 2A football as they dominated every team they faced during the regular season, with their closest regular season game being a 37-6 victory over Camp Verde. This ultimately landed them the #2 overall seed in the playoffs, but things would quickly change direction during the first round against St. John’s. The #7 seed St. John’s came to Scottsdale and upset Scottsdale Christian 22-21 which shocked everyone across the state. I got a chance to scout Scottsdale Christian live against Scottsdale Prep, which was supposed to be the 2A game of the week where they dominated Scottsdale Prep 49-7. After this W, they knew they would be a top seed, and expressed that they expected to play against Santa Cruz at some point in the playoffs, so to say it was a shock to be eliminated round 1 is an understatement. Scottsdale Christian was stacked with talent in 2020, and that doesn’t seem to change in 2021. However, the biggest hole they’ll have to fill is the departure of 2021 ATH Ben Tobin Ben Tobin 6'0" | 190 lbs | ATH Scottsdale Christian | 2021 State AZ who will be playing at New Mexico State in the fall, and was an absolute monster on both sides of the ball last season. As they enter the season in about a month, Scottsdale Christian will look to have another successful season, and lock in during the playoffs to make a run in 2021.
Players To Watch
Boden Davidson Boden Davidson 5'10" | 165 lbs | ATH Scottsdale Christian | 2022 State AZ , ATH, 5’11″ 160lbs, ’22
Davidson ran for 306 yards and 4 TD’s last season, while also accumulating 119 yards and 2 TD’s receiving. He’s a solid return specialist as well and totaled 762 all-purpose yards in 2020. He’s a solid all around athlete with big position versatility across the board. He possesses good top end speed and is explosive out of his cuts for big play ability, and has the potential to be one of the best weapons in 2A football in 2021.
Coby Tabet, WR/DB, 5’10″ 160lbs, ’23
Tabet accumulated 306 tatal yards last season on just 16 touches, so you can expect his role and workload to take a major leap in 2021. He flashes solid vision and cuts of blocks well with good top end speed for 2A when he hits the second level for big play ability. He’s slippery in tight spaces with the ability to make opponents miss, and could have a big junior season.
Peyton Hueser, OL, 5’11” 200lbs, ’22
Hueser was awarded “1st Team All-Conference OL” as a junior, and will look to have another productive year. Expect Hueser to get more play time on defense as well, as he looks to hold a promising role for Scottsdale Christian in 2021.
