In all four of York’s losses during the wild 2020 COVID season, the margin of defeats were all within two touchdowns or less. But in the games that they won, they were grind it out type games and low scoring where they won it on defense.. Now as coach Dean Boyd’s team turn the page to 2021, there’s talent on the roster, especially on offense for them to make some noise in their region and perhaps go even further.
Weston Hance is now off at Presbyterian College and while the Cougars are working to figure out who will take the first offensive snap against Mauldin next Friday, they have the skill players who should be able to take the pressure off the starter beginning with senior wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="91175" first="Jevon" last="Long"] (@JevonLong1) who has the speed and versatility to make plays in space. He also is a threat on special teams as well. He garnered All-Region honors for his play in 2020. Wide receiver Zy Brown (@zybrown04) will be a guy to watch as well. York’s offense will also feature a trio of running backs, both who are seniors in our 2022 PRZ rankings in [player_tooltip player_id="153267" first="RJ" last="Glasgow"] (@RivilisG) and [player_tooltip player_id="59495" first="Frank" last="Thompson"] (@FrankThompsonJ1).
The defense will be led by another trio of seniors in linebackers Ashton Eddington and [player_tooltip player_id="91189" first="Mekayle" last="Burris"] (@k8_Officiall). Burris, who has an offer from North Greenville University, played the outside linebacker position during the 2020 season and is an aggressive, downhill backer who fills running lanes well Eddington is a guy who should compliment Burris well and we will be interested to watch him in person this fall.
