The first week of the high school football season is in the books and we saw some excellent games from the annual Corky Kell Classic. A series of games that kicks off the season each year, it’s where prospects across the state seem to breakout to start the season. Every year wee see different prospects have a monster game in the Corky Kell Classic, and many times they’ll see their recruitment take off because of it.
Here were some of the "breakout" performers from the 2021 Corky Kell Classic...
Peyton Streko - RB - West Forsyth
The Wolverine’s new weapon in the backfield, Streko, a junior, made his presence known early on in the season opener. He’s not the biggest back in the area, but he’s build well and has plenty of muscle on his frame. Teamed up with sophomore Ryder Stewart, Streko gives the Wolverines one of the top RB tandems in North Georgia. He has good vision as a runner, follows his blocks well, and shows good burst through the line of scrimmage. He’s a weapon out of the backfield as well and took a 46-yard screen pass for a touchdown against Carver, spinning out of two tackles on the way to the end-zone. He’s a tough runner and he’s deceptively fast. On defense, Streko can fly to the football from his safety position and shows natural instincts for the position. Overall, Streko showed that he’s a talented athlete who will be able to help the Wolverines at multiple key positions this fall.
Hayden Clark - QB - Mill Creek
Another impressive Gwinnett County QB, Clark showed poise and accuracy throughout Mill Creek’s dominant 43-10 victory over Parkview. Clark was a true leader out there and made sure to get all of his offensive weapons involved. He’s a guy who can win games with his arm and that’s exactly what happened this weekend. Clark threw for 242 yards and three big touchdowns that put the Hawks in a strong position early in the game. Clark hit 4-star [player_tooltip player_id="34015" first="Caleb" last="Downs"] on a corner route in the end zone and put the ball exactly where it needed to be. He also hit Brendan Jenkins for a 79-yard score and Trajen Graco for a 23-yard score. Clark is an accurate passer with enough weapons to lead Mill Creek to a deep playoff run this fall.
Kaleb Webb - WR - McEachern
It might be odd to call him a "breakout" star performer because he is currently committed to a D1 program in East Carolina, but Webb’s four-touchdown performance for McEachern could lead to more offers in the coming weeks. The senior was unstoppable for the Indians this week against Kell. Webb caught three touchdown passes including one leaping grab for a long score. He’s added some weight and muscle this offseason and used his size to his advantage all game. He was able to create separation from the Kell defensive backs and was a reliable option for QB [player_tooltip player_id="33881" first="Bryce" last="Archie"] if he was looking to throw the ball deep. Webb also returned a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, giving him four for the game. Look for his stock to rise quickly over the next few weeks.
Reggie Givhan - WR - North Cobb
One of the breakout players from the first weekend, the new North Cobb weapon made an immediate impact and was able to see a lot of passes thrown his way with four-star wide-out [player_tooltip player_id="95161" first="De’Nylon" last="Morrissette"] out. The quick, twitchy receiver was a reliable option all night for QB [player_tooltip player_id="34008" first="Malachi" last="Singleton"] as the two connected on a long 50-yard touchdown early in the game. Givhan made two impressive Buford defensive backs miss on the play as he took off into thee end-zone. The Hillgrove transfer is not a big-name recruit right now, but if he continues to play he did last weekend, there will be lots of schools reaching out to him. Even in a losing effort, Givhan had one of the game’s best performances, catching 9 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown.
