Here We Go…….
We have waited for this day for the past nine months.
Opening Friday night of the 2021 high school football season is here – and every player, coach, fan and administrators from Key West to Pensacola is set to get this 2021 season started.
While this pandemic continues to rear its ugly head – with a number of games canceled because of Covid – the show must go on, and it will.
Starting with last night’s action, the Sunshine State has officially started a year in we all have to be careful and safe to make everything a reality.
As you know, very few sources are on top of things like we are – every day of the year – seeing many, many athletes and team – live and in person.
As we look at prospects and teams, we can give you valid breakdowns by actually seeing these young men from 6 feet away – and not relying on those who just watch film and copy what people say. You do not exist in the world of recruiting for six decades without offering something nobody else does.
Each Friday, we will take a look at some intriguing matchups and sharing a paragraph on the games. We hope you enjoy.
LOOKING AT 15 GAMES
The spotlight will surely fall on Florida this weekend – with some key games on to tap for Week 1.
Baker County at Bradford County. First year in 1A for the Tornadoes against a solid program that is making a bid for a playoff spot.
Bishop Moore at Edgewater. College Park showdown between two rivals, who both are solid. The two-time 7A state runner up Eagles are re-loading.
Bloomingdale at Gaither. A pair of programs who enjoyed success a year ago are searching for answers as the year begins.
Chaminade-Madonna at Western. This Broward County contest pits the 3A powerhouse Lions against an 8A team that has the talent to make it to the state finals in December.
Champagnat Catholic at Miami Northwestern. In the past, nobody would pay any attention to this game, but the two-time defending 2A state champs figure to give the rebuilding Bulls a contest. Keep in mind, Northwestern still has players.
Cocoa at Vero Beach. This is one of those games that you just may want to attend. Both programs are always in the playoff mix – the Tigers in 4A and Indians in 8A.
Dr. Phillips at Orlando Jones. Another of those games that could be worth attending – because both programs have players and are well coached. Tremendous opener.
Edison at Deerfield Beach. One the surface, a 3A team going to play a stacked 8A program would never grab the attention, but the Red Raiders are loaded with Power 5 athletes – and so are the Bucks. A recruit-filled meeting.
Godby at Florida High. What you have in Tallahassee is a really good game – with teams who have competed at a high level – in different divisions
Gulliver Prep at Bradenton Manatee. First meeting ever between a budding 4A power from Miami and a longtime power in 7A. Both programs are loaded, but the Raiders come away with a win here – and everyone is watching!
Lake Gibson at Lake Mary. This is indeed one of those games that is quite interesting – with a proven power going on the road, loaded with prospects, against an 8A team that knows how to win games.
Lincoln at Niceville. Another one of those games that figures to test both teams – and put the winner in the spotlight. Niceville has lost only two games the past two years and still have so much to prove. The Trojans are a year away.
Sarasota Riverview at Sanford Seminole. The defending 8A state champs are at home for a game that will showcase talent on both sides of the ball. The Seminoles have a really impressive schedule in 2021. Once again, they are the team to watch. Riverview has also been in the playoff mix as well.
St. Augustine at Dunnellon. Two teams that came ever so close will open the season – and both programs received recognition as the Top 25 broke this week. Well coached teams with explosive offenses and solid quarterbacks.
