The University of Kentucky is gaining commitments from many of the top players in the state for the 2022 class. As a matter of fact, they have landed, or on the verge of landing, verbals from five of the top ten Kentucky high school players as ranked by Prep Redzone. The coaching staff has also secured a commitment from the top place kicker in the state, [player_tooltip player_id="144988" first="Jackson" last="Smith"]. The Wildcats are hoping to keep the top talent at home, and they are off to a great start for the class of 2022.
[player_tooltip player_id="144976" first="Dane" last="Key"] 6’2” 170 WR Lexington Frederick Douglass
It looks as if Key the number four overall ranked player, is about to finalize his pledge to his hometown university. The number one receiver in the state is an exceptional route runner with great hands and pure speed. Key is a big play maker who threatens to take every reception to the house. He isn’t afraid to go up in a crowd to haul in the pass.
[player_tooltip player_id="144956" first="Treyveon" last="Longmire"] 6’2” 180 ATH Corbin
The number one ranked player in the athlete category, is headed to Lexington. Longmire has a ton of tools in his tool belt. He is an outstanding receiver who can get vertical in a hurry. Defensively, Longmire is a tall rangy corner for Corbin who breaks instantly on the pass. To add to his resume, Longmire is an exceptional kickoff returner who makes defenders miss in space.
[player_tooltip player_id="144966" first="Grant" last="Bingham"] 6’6” 300 OL Johnson Central
It was a must for the Wildcats to land the top ranked offensive lineman in the Bluegrass state, and they did exactly that in Bingham. Bingham is a complete offensive lineman that is very mobile for his size as shown in his ability to lead block to the perimeter on the sweep. He also mauls the opposition off the line of scrimmage on inside running plays. Bingham is just as stout in pass protection as he is on the run game.
[player_tooltip player_id="144972" first="Ty" last="Bryant"] 5’11” 170 DB Lexington Frederick Douglass
Bryant and Key will most likely remain teammates, just at UK instead of Frederick Douglass. Bryant, the number two ranked defensive back in the state plays safety like a seasoned veteran. He can play cover 3 or cover 2 with equal effectiveness. He displays great range and closing speed. Like [player_tooltip player_id="144956" first="Treyveon" last="Longmire"], he is also a dynamic kickoff return specialist.
[player_tooltip player_id="144980" first="Jawaun" last="Northington"] 5’11” 195 RB Louisville Dupont Manual
The number nine player overall and the top running back in the state, Northington brings a lot to the table for the Wildcats as his commitment to Kentucky nears. This dynamic runner is both powerful and quick. He breaks tackles at the line of scrimmage and in the openfield as heads north and south. He maintains his balance as he spins out of the arms of defenders while still accelerating.
