Aside from the prospects mentioned in part 1, there are multiple others who are arguably some of the top players in their position group, who do not get as much shine as some of the other prospects. Below, we have added a few others who we think are worth checking out, who are arguably just as good, if not better than some of the names you hear most often.
Tyler Hughes Tyler Hughes 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Marietta | 2022 State GA (QB)- Marietta / 2022
During our evaluation of Hughes, we saw plenty of similarities between his game, and the way that Dak Prescott plays the QB position. His release can be a bit longer at times, and he may not have the strongest arm, but he does a decent job of throwing with the velocity and power that he does have. Paired with this, he does a good job of hitting receivers in stride, and hitting the open man. He can make throws at each level of the field, and he throws with good touch as well. Hughes also processes the game at a good rate as well, and we like the way that he is not afraid to step up in the pocket. If necessary, Hughes will run the football and show off his athleticism, which can also be seen to be a weapon against opposing defenses due to the way it keeps them off balance. Next year, due to the fact that we feel he is extremely underrated, we feel he has a chance at making a breakthrough if he performs to his ability. This will put his name out there for many people to see, and he will finally get some of the respect he is owed.
Marcus Allen Marcus Allen 6'2" | 165 lbs | DB Walton | 2022 State GA (CB)- Walton / 2022
Allen is not only a long DB prospect, but he also has a good developmental frame. This allows him to be an ideal player going into the next level. As he is committed to North Carolina, we are not shocked due to his overall speed, and the way he is able to adjust to plays with his quick feet, and create turnovers with his ball skills. He flips his hips cleanly as well, which is a big deal when paired with his fluid movement skills due to the fact that it helps him to cover effectively in both man and zone coverage. With this, he gets in and out of his breaks well, and is able to come downhill when needed. Next season should be a great season for Allen, as we fully expect him to start to gain the attention that he so rightly deserves.
Malcolm Jones (S)- Lee County / 2022
When watching Jones, it is evident that he does not have a problem coming downhill to make tackles. Because of this, he can be seen to be an ideal Safety, and it should come as no surprise that he is committed to Virginia Tech. Regardless, he still does not get the shine his talent warrants. On the football field, Jones is a very instinctive athlete, who does a good job of reacting to ball carriers and making tackles. In doing so, he takes good angles, and plays with a tenacity that most defensive coaches would love to add to their team. Not only is he fast, but he also does a good job of covering in zone coverage, leaving little room for separation. The pop he brings on contact is great to see, and the way he uses his leverage to create big stops is also huge.
Amari Jackson (CB)- Eagle’s Landing / 2022
Out of all of the DB’s on this list, we feel that Jackson is one of the more underrated ones. Even though he is committed to Boston College, we have taken a liking to his quick feet, and burst out of his breaks. His turns and runs well, and proves to show flashes in both man and zone coverage. His speed, range, and short area quickness help him to gain ground quickly, and the balance he has helps him to keep up with receivers, even despite contact. His change of direction is great in allowing him to break down with opposing players, and to be able to stay in their hip pocket. When Jackson goes to make tackles, he is also very effective, as he is great at using his explosive ability to come downhill, and lay the boom on ball carriers. Next season, we hope that he starts to get some of the respect he deserves, because he is definitely one of the best DB’s in the state.
