San Diego is often overlooked because of the amount of talent in Orange County and Los Angeles, but there are some teams and players in San Diego that can hang with anyone in the state.
Prep Redzone’s updated class of 2024 rankings features a couple of San Diego quarterbacks, but I will highlight a couple other quarterbacks in the class who may make an impact this fall.
5. Hudson Herber, Coronado
Herber got some valuable playing time for a decent Coronado team as a freshman this spring. Some of his skillset is above average for a freshman. He has a nice touch on his deep throws, he gets rid of the ball in a timely manner and looks at receivers beyond his first read. In one game, Coronado ran a double-wing offense and he made a nice run which showed athleticism. A lot of the flaws in his game will be solved with more size and experience and by all accounts, he has the work ethic to consistently improve.

4. Iosefa Letuli, St. Augustine
He already has college level size at 6-foot-5 and around 220 pounds. A lot of his film is from the lower levels but he appeared in the season-finale against Lincoln. They roll him out a lot and he usually makes the right decisions on RPOs. He has good arm strength for someone in his class and has above average accuracy. St. Augustine had a senior quarterback last year and Letuli will likely be the starter for one of the top 10 teams in the county.

3. Johnny Limon, Eastlake
Eastlake was a pleasant surprise this spring, going undefeated and winning the Metro-Mesa League. When I looked at his numbers I thought that maybe they didn’t ask him to do much, but when you watch his film, he makes some difficult throws. Eastlake has some RPOs in their offense and relies on the quarterback to make the right read and Limon makes the correct read more often than not. He has the athleticism to extend plays and make throws on the run.

2. [player_tooltip player_id="115450" first="Ryland" last="Jessee"], Helix
Jessee was the best freshman quarterback on the field this spring. He throws a good deep ball, has confidence and is a good athlete. He took some risks that didn’t pay off but he was a freshman playing for a top program and wanted to make an impression so it’s understandable. His decision making will only get better with experience and he already has the tools to be a national recruit.

1. [player_tooltip player_id="115456" first="Julian" last="Sayin"], Carlsbad
He is ranked as the No. 2 quarterback in the state for the class but in my opinion, he is the top quarterback in the class. He has a college-level arm already and has the accuracy of an upperclassman quarterback. He impressed at the UC Report Camp in Southern California and scouts are raving about him. He has offers from Notre Dame, Texas and many more high-profile schools.
