Another round of commitment breakdowns for this week as this round of recent commitments includes four defensive players. Each of these players already show a lot of promise judging by their tape. So, give these players a look!
1. [player_tooltip player_id="60706" first="Chace" last="Biddle"] (SR-DB) - Garland High School (Garland, TX) - SMU
Biddle received multiple offers including from Alabama, Arkansas and Auburn, but Biddle committed to SMU just yesterday but he also visited TCU. Biddle is ranked among the best in the state and among his position. One of his unique qualities is that he is incredibly fast, running a 10.70 100-meter dash and 22.12 200-meter dash. Going off of his tape, Biddle displays intelligence of knowing how the play is going to go before it happens. This especially comes into play on option plays and runs off the edge. He is also excellent in coverage and even if the receiver makes the reception, he can make sure they do not go far.
2. John Locke (SR-TE) - O’Connor High School (Helotes, TX) - Colorado State
2020-21 Season: 24 receptions, 380 receiving yards, 4 receiving touchdowns
It was not long after Locke had visited Colorado State and attended a camp there that the Rams gave him an offer. A few weeks later, Locke committed to the program. He played as a wide receiver mostly last season and his tape showcases his route-running ability as well as his ability to make tough catches, including one where he is in double coverage in the corner of the endzone. Colorado State has acquired a great tight end in the making.
3. [player_tooltip player_id="121598" first="Aaron" last="Austin"] (SR-DL) - North Crowley High School (Fort Worth, TX) - Colorado
2020-21 Season: 48 total tackles, 18 tackles for a loss, 9 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 4 pass break-ups
Another player heading to the state of Colorado, Austin had received multiple offers from schools such as SMU, Arizona, Arkansas State and Boston College but Austin made his decision to go with the Buffaloes on Tuesday, July 6. Speed, tenacity and power are three words to describe Austin on the defensive line. He can cause disruption which leads to an interception or simply bulldoze his way through the offensive line to stuff a run. He is fun to watch and Colorado has added a great piece to their defense.
4. Collin Wright (SR-DB) - Manvel High School (Manvel, TX) - Stanford
2020-21 Season: 59 total tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 8 pass breakups, 4 interceptions
Clearly, by the numbers, Wright is a ball hawk, which garnered the attention from several schools across the country including Colorado, Duke, Utah and Arizona. However, Wright chose to continue his football career at Stanford, which has now acquired a first-team all-stater and an all-district defensive back with numbers to back it up. Looking at the tape, teams will want to have this guy on goal-line defense, because he can sniff out the play and stomp it out before the opposing offense can score. It is already known he is a ball hawk but he is also good at reading the plays and creating other turnovers either by just being disruptive or stripping the ball himself.
5. [player_tooltip player_id="129567" first="Kivon" last="Wright"] (SR-DL) - Manvel High School (Manvel, TX) - Boston College
2020-21 Season: 22 total tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, 5 sacks, 3 pass break-ups
The cousin of Collin Wright, [player_tooltip player_id="129567" first="Kivon" last="Wright"], also made a recent commitment to Boston College. The Eagles now have one tenacious and fast defensive linemen who can end a running play before the running back can even take his first step. This tenacity and speed also helped him get the number of sacks he had last season. Simply put, this is a fast and strong defensive lineman who is laser-focused on the ball and stopping the play and does not let the offensive line stand in his way at all.
