The state has multiple future D1 tight ends including onces committed to LSU, Ohio State, and Notre Dame. Georgia is home to the top two tight end prospects in the country, and it’s the place every college looks for to find their next tight end. As talented as it is, it’s also extremely deep, and there are still a few in Georgia who have get to see their recruitment take off.
Here are some 2022 TEs in Georgia who are bound for breakout seasons this fall.
Stone Bonner – Brookwood
The Broncos will be without last year’s two leading receivers in De’Nylon Morrissette De’Nylon Morrissette 6'1" | 200 lbs | WR Brookwood | 2022 State GA and Sam Mbake Sam Mbake 6'3" | 205 lbs | WR Brookwood | 2022 State GA , so there is going to plenty planty of opportunities for rising senior, Stone Bonner. Already a big target in the passing game, Bonner could be one of the leading TE’s across the state due to his size, reliable hands, and the fact that he’ll be needed on just about every offensive possession. Broncos QB Dylan Lonergan Dylan Lonergan 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Brookwood | 2023 State GA is one of the best 2023 prospects in the country, and he’ll need weapons to throw too all season. He’s got a big arm, and he’ll be looking for Bonner early and often in just about every game. The big 6-foot-4 220-pounder is coming off a nice junior season where he caught 29 passes for 446 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was the team’s 3rd-leading receiver last year, and there’s a chance he’ll bee leading the team in 2021.
Mason Capers – South Forsyth
Every school is looking for a long, athletic, pass-catching tight end, and that’s exactly what Capers brings to the table. The 6-foot-4 215-pounder moves like a wide receiver and can be a dangerous mismatch for any offense. He can work vertically in the middle of the field but can also be a reliable option on the outside along the sidelines. He didn’t light up the stat sheet last year with senior Devin McGlockton getting most of the targets, but now it’s time for Capers to step up and show what he can do. The War Eagles are going to look to throw the ball around once again in 2021 with new QB Ty Watkins Ty Watkins 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB South Forsyth | 2023 State GA , so look for Capers to get a lot of opportunities to make plays as a senior. He’ll be a big weapon in the red-zone as well as he’ll be able to use his size to his advantage in jump-ball situations. Capers is a possible breakout player in the region and has enough size and athleticism to see some interest start to come his way.
Deavon Garrett – Central Gwinnett
One of the more underrated tight ends in Gwinnett County, the two-sport star is coming off a nice spring on the gridiron and could be a go-to target for the Central Gwinnett Black Knights this fall. He was a no-factor for Central Gwinnett last year, but that shouldn’t be the case for Garrett in 2021. The 6-foot-3 230-pounder is a big target who can make a big impact over the middle of the field. He can make the acrobatic catch and has shown solid, reliable hands at every camp he’s been at. He’s a true “under the radar” tight end who should see a LOT of passes coming his way this fall.
