Get 25% off your subscription by entering Knight25 in the coupon code area. Enjoy! Every Monday, we update you on all of the recruiting news from across the state. From offers to commitments and everything in between, we’ll have you covered. This week, we have something special as this Recruiting Report is a Commitment Special! We had nine prospects announcing their commitments in the last week. At this time last week, we had eleven total commitments in the 2022 class and that number has jumped to twenty commits. Five top ten prospects in the 2022 rankings announced their commitments as well. While this week was all about the commitments, it should be noted that we had offers as well. McAlester 2022 linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="38690" first="Chase" last="Faber"] was offered by Liberty. As always, you can follow us on Twitter to stay up to date from the moment an offer or commitment happens. @PrepRedzoneOK THIS WEEK’S TOP STORIES Shettrons To Stillwater One of the biggest stories from the last week in recruiting was Oklahoma State landing a commitment and flipping the commitment from their Bedlam rivals. On Wednesday morning, Edmond Santa Fe’s [player_tooltip player_id="101405" first="Tabry" last="Shettron"] announced his commitment to Oklahoma State and seconds later, his brother [player_tooltip player_id="38667" first="Talyn" last="Shettron"] flipped his commitment from OU to OSU in one of the bigger days in Cowboy recruiting in-state. [player_tooltip player_id="101405" first="Tabry" last="Shettron"] picked up the offer from OSU within the last week before giving his commitment to the Cowboys. The opportunity to play with his brother at the next level was too much for Talyn to pass up so he flipped his commitment to the Cowboys after being committed to OU since October of 2020. Oklahoma State was the first school to offer Talyn towards the end of his freshman year. The commitments from the Shettrons give the Cowboys seven commitments in the 2022 class. Talyn is now the highest rated OSU commitment, coming in at #2 overall in our recent 2022 ranking update. OU Lands Top Ten Pair It was a big weekend for OU recruiting overall and it ended up including two of the top in-state prospects committing to the Sooners. First, Deer Creek offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="38666" first="Jacob" last="Sexton"] tweeted out his commitment to the Sooners on Saturday evening. On Sunday, Broken Arrow’s [player_tooltip player_id="61133" first="Robert" last="Spears-Jennings"], who is an outstanding wide receiver, but is being recruited as a defensive back, committed to the Sooners. Sexton had a very busy June, going on official and unofficial visits to his top five schools. He visited Alabama, OU, OSU, Texas and Texas A&M. Ultimately, the Sooners were able to land the state’s top offensive lineman and the #4 overall prospect. That gives OU two commitments in the state’s top five. Two other prospects, [player_tooltip player_id="38668" first="Gentry" last="Williams"] and [player_tooltip player_id="38674" first="Chris" last="McClellan"] are strongly considering OU as well. For RSJ, he was offered by OU earlier this summer after a strong work out with the Sooners. They plan on bringing him into Norman as a safety. Top QB Commits To Iowa Recruiting for quarterbacks has become a much harder game with the activity of the transfer portal. It’s not as bad as recruiting for kickers but it’s getting close as there aren’t many opportunities out there for senior quarterbacks. Because of that, it didn’t take long for the state’s top 2022 quarterback to pull the trigger on his opportunity to play at the next level. Jones QB [player_tooltip player_id="38671" first="Carson" last="May"] visited Iowa last week and earned an offer from the Hawkeyes on Monday. On Tuesday, he announced his commitment within 24 hours of the offer. May is not only the top quarterback prospect in the state’s 2022 class, but he’s a top ten overall prospect in the class as well. Horn Commits To Texas Tech The holiday weekend featured four in-state commitments and it began at noon on Saturday with Broken Arrow’s [player_tooltip player_id="38672" first="Maurion" last="Horn"] giving his verbal commitment to Texas Tech. Horn recently went on an official visit to Lubbock and Tech was our guess for where Horn would officially land. Like his teammate [player_tooltip player_id="61133" first="Robert" last="Spears-Jennings"], Horn is being recruited to be in the secondary at the next level. He’s one of the top corners in the state but he’s also an outstanding running back. He was ranked sixth overall in our recent recruiting rankings and the top running back prospect but that will have to change in the next update as he’s very clearly going to the next level to play defense. Clifton To Kansas State We knew it was going to be a busy weekend of commitments but things got started early on Friday evening as Owasso 2022 linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="101403" first="Jake" last="Clifton"] announced his commitment to Kansas State. The standout Owasso linebacker has had an outstanding offseason and is primed to be one of the top linebackers in the state this fall. He also has shown versatility in his game and could end up being moved around to play a few different positions in college. Clifton came in as a Top 20 prospect in our recent ranking update and is the first 2022 prospect to give a commitment to Kansas State. Gordon To Baylor We had more fireworks on the fourth of July as Putnam City West standout [player_tooltip player_id="61134" first="Corey" last="Gordon"] announced his commitment to Baylor. Gordon is one of the best two-way prospects in the state’s 2022 class. He’s just as dangerous as a pass catcher as he is on the defensive side as a safety. However, it appears likely that he’ll be on the defensive side of the ball at the next level. Gordon tweeted out his commitment to Baylor on Sunday. Capping off a very big week for in-state prospects with Big 12 schools. Gordon was the ninth and final commitment of the week and is headed south to Waco. Lorenz The Latest Air Force Commitment Our final commitment was actually the first of the week. Shortly after releasing last week’s Recruiting Report, Noble 2022 athlete [player_tooltip player_id="111754" first="Trevor" last="Lorenz"] announced his commitment to Air Force. Lorenz is the second Air Force commitment in the state’s 2022 class, joining Bartlesville offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="38682" first="Ridge" last="Brewington"]. Lorenz is a dynamic athlete that unfortunately we won’t see very much of, if any this fall for Noble. While playing multiple sports in the spring, Lorenz hurt his knee and had to have surgery that will more than likely keep him out of the 2022 season.
